If I Had a Time Machine            by heyday

If I had a time machine, I would go into the past;

And make a love with you that would forever last.

I would start all over, and erase my many mistakes.

I would do it all over again, for both of our sakes.

Oh , to have the chance to appreciate you again!

To be there for you when you just needed a friend;

Never to push you away when I’m tired and weary;

Never giving you reason to approach me so leery.

To respond warmly when you need my solace;

To hug you warmly as your words I embrace;

To not shut you out, as your needs properly exist;

To listen to you always, even though my ears resist.

To throw off the day and enjoy the evening with you;

Always willing to try to understand your point of view;

To let your thoughts mingle in those that are mine;

So that the coupling creates a special wisdom divine.

But, alas, my darling, I can’t travel back to the beginning;

To erase broken promises, to undo my unjust reneging.

But, if you should allow me to start again this very day;

I can show you a newness in me as I follow your way
