Love at First Lie by heyday
It was love at first lie, with you who looked me in the eye. You, master of the alibi, telling me tales, leaving me to ask why? Why you treated me this way, why must I always pay and pay; for believing anything you say, for trying to understand your way. For trusting your words calmly spoken, always promises to be broken.; Why have I never awoken, why did I sleep in your words but a token? Like a lullaby they calm for a while, such is the measure of your guile; Leaving me alone with the taste of bile, alone in walking the last mile. I believed in the things whispered in my ear, trusting you, I had no fear; That your promises, held as so dear, could only be cause for many a tear; That our plans made on a dreamy summer night, would evaporate with first light; And wisp away completely out of sight, leaving only a memories wretched blight. And now you are acting in a new play, with new lines you so dramatically display; With a new leading character hanging on what you say, words that will fade away. For truth is a thing not convenient for you, you whose broken promises aren’t few; Who takes by deception what you consider your due, and then go to someone new. Happily you traipse away never looking back at those bruised hearts blue and black; Pretending they weren’t tortured on the rack of your false words given with such knack.. Skip away, skip away, in joyful abandonment, relish the feelings of your contentment; Think not of others resentment, those who know the twisted thing of broken commitment. The world is yours to do as you please, it’s your right to ignore any pleas; Of those hearts you liked to squeeze, of the ones you brought to their knees. And if you one day find yourself alone and old, with no one to make plans so bold; I wonder, will you bluff, or fold, when you can no longer find loving arms that hold? |
