In
Greek Mythology, the evil Queen of Gods, Hera,
sent the Crab to distract Hercules as he fought
with a multi snake-headed monster called Lernean
Hydra. Originally called Carcinus which means
"crayfish" in Greek, the Crab was huge
and thus Hera thought it could help her kill Hercules
or at least distract him long enough for Lernean
Hydra to finish him off. Hera's judgement was
wrong as Hercules managed to kill the Crab easily.
Hera thus placed Carcinus among the stars to show
the Crab her gratitude.
Like Carcinus the Crab, Cancer is not as tough
as he looks. Though she may seem thick skinned
and unemotional, the true Cancer beneath the hard
shell is actually very sensitive and is easily
hurt by criticisms and nasty remarks. A natural
born devoted home protector, nothing is more important
to the Crab than her family and loved ones. Cancer
deeply appreciates art and literature and may
even have a flair for these. A romantic and loving
partner, Cancer is not one to be unfaithful.
Cancer is dreamy and has an incredible imagination
thus they sometimes appear to live in their own
fantasy world. A conservative individual, Cancer
respects convention and tradition. The hardworking
Cancer is also susceptible to frequent and unexplained
mood swings. Untidy and sulky, Cancer suffers
from an inferiority complex and may even be tactless
in action and speech at times. Once the Crab has
something in her claws, she may get clingy and
refuses to let go.
