wsAAnge (Angela Shaw) has announced her 'retirement' from the College as from the end of the year and is looking forward to her marriage in January.

Year 3 students are back in college this month to complete their work require- ments for graduation with their teaching diplomas. Most Year 1 and 2 students will be out on practicum for two weeks enjoying the practical side of the course.

Students have been working steadily towards completing their courses and our Year Three students are looking forward to entering the world of paid employment. Our practicum children were entertained at the "Down on the Farm" party, by enthusiastic Year 1 students. They also enjoyed the special party food the students prepared for them.

Our first group of Distance students began their course at the end of August by attending College for a block course of one week. This is a return to distance education for the College. Distance students are all employed in Early Childhood Centres and will work through College modules at the pace of one per month. Staff will be available for the students through communication by telephone, emails and the chat room.

Results of staff attending Careers Expos and Schools have been very rewarding, with many enquiries and enrolments for next year. It has been great to see so many young people really keen to have a career with children. At the moment in New Zealand there is a vast shortage of qualified teachers in the early childhood sector. Many of our Year 3 students are already receiving offers of employment for next year.

Graduation 2001 is on the 1^st December in the James Hay Theatre, Christchurch Town Hall. All friends of the College are warmly invited to join us for that very special function.
