BASIC GAMING
QUESTIONS
1. There are spaces on the game
spy number of players by a server name available but it
says “The server is full” when I try to join.
You may need to refresh your list, or they
may be in use by private slots. If you are a private or
above in SSPzA then you can access the site with a
password. See RCON below for a detailed answer by Blank
on how to access the server with a
password.
2. Why did I get
booted?
There are
several reasons that you may have been booted. High
ping, cheat detected, improper language/disrespect for
other players, TKing (killing members of your own team),
breaking posted rules such as running. Hopefully you
were warned several times before you were booted, but
Ping boots for
example are automatic and you will just get booted to
prevent game lag.
3. What are the rules for the
[SSPzA] games?
No running
unless under direct fire or grenades land near you, No
team killing, No cheating, Respect all clan members, No
bad language. These are the posted rules however general
good conduct is expected, ie no spawn killing, limit
talk killing, do not interfere with other players on
same team ie jumping on them when they are trying to
hide.
4. What are cheats?
Cheats are
modifications a player places on their own game that
give them an unfair advantage usually a game hack such
as seeing or shooting through walls, brightly coloring
players skins so they are easy to see, extra health or
invulnerability and more. More on cheaters at end of FAQ
from a site by zagz.
5. What are game mods?
Mods are
generally modifications to the game on the server that
apply to everyone playing on that server such as weapon
recoil, movement speed, lean while walking, (realism
mods are popular), technically a mod is a cheat as it
applies to the pure form of the game, however since mods
effect everyone equally they are not considered cheats
in game play. When joining a game you can follow players
before choosing a team to see how the game is being
played. Ask if you are not sure what the rules on the
server are.
6. What is a bot?
A bot is a form
of a cheat that aids in performance of an individual
player. Aim bots for example allow a player to get a
head shot every time they shoot in the general direction
of an enemy.
Bots are not allowed.
7. What is a skin?
A skin is the
way a player looks. The game comes with standard skins
called stock skins but many alternative skins are
available. You can only use a skin that is on the server
so that all may use and see them. Some skins are
considered cheats such as big bulls eyes because a
player can force skins and make everyone else in the
game have a target or glowing shirt etc. SSPzA has
special skins to be used by members to identify unit and
rank.
8. What does an “Unauthorized
Skin” mean?
Servers that do
not have the skin you have selected loaded on them will
refer to it as an unauthorized skin and require you to
change to stock skins or be booted.
9. I seem to have a lag in my
game is there anything I can do to fix it?
Yes, you can adjust your fps (frames per
second) in the
console:
How To -
Display Your FPS:
1. Display the MOH:SH console
2. Type "fps 1" without the quotes.
3. Type "fps 0" without the quotes, to turn it
off.
How To - Cap Your FPS:
1. Display the MOH:SH console
2. Type "com_maxfps ##" without the quotes. ##
max fps.
How
To - Display The Lagometer:
1. Display the MOH:SH console
2. Type "cg_lagometer 1" without the quotes.
3. Type "cg_lagometer 1" without the quotes, turn
to it off.
Adjust Your Rate To Avoid Lag:
The following is only for DSL, Cable, or higher
bandwidth connections.
Do not follow these instructions if you are
connecting at a lower bandwidth
The default rate settings for cable and DSL
(20000 or 50000) are much too high for the current
client/server setups.
How To - Adjust Your Rate:
1. Display the MOH:SH console
2. Type "rate 10000" without the quotes - that's
4 zeros.
3. To monitor network performance dynamically,
see using lag meter
10. How do I set my game to
always walk?
To
set your game to always walk, during the game, press F3
then Uncheck always
run.
(GS) GAME SPY QUESTIONS
1. Do I need to be on
GameSpy?
While it is not
necessary to be a member of GameSpy it does give you the
advantage of seeing when buddies are online and joining
games they are in. It is encouraged that you play with
other clan members when possible. GameSpy also allows
you to join in chats and other features available
through them. You do not have to pay to use GameSpy
unless you want to so there is no real reason why not
to.
2. What is a GS name?
A GS name is
simply a GameSpy nickname. You may be asked to give your
GS name because that is how you will usually be
contacted.
3. What is RW?
RW is Roger
Wilco, a in game voice communication system allowing for
team members to talk while playing. There is a link on
the SSPzA site to get RW and explaining it in more
detail.
4. How do I add [SSPzA] members
to my buddy list?
You must know their GS name first. Click
the star in the upper right hand corner of the
gamespyarcade screen. This opens the buddy area. Double
click in that area and a pop-up will show up asking you
the name of the person you want to find. Enter the
information and send. It will tell you that you need to
be authorized by the person. Click request and send. You
will be notified as to when you are
added.
CONSOLE (RCON)
CONTROL QUESTIONS
a RCON
GUIDE provided
by Blank
1. What or who is the console
that keeps talking during a game?
Console is the
name of the person using RCON (below). Console acts as
the game Referee giving directions and monitoring game
play. They may be playing the game or just monitoring
it. The Console may send messages to the players either
directly or by automated messages. RCON is a part of the
game that allows controls of the server described more
below. Console directions must be followed or you may be
booted or even banned from the game for not following
rules.
2. What is RCON and do I need to
know how to use it?
RCON is the
server remote control built into the game. It is
accessed by the advanced options screen and by checking
the box for console. You do not need to know anything
about RCON to play the game. It is used for such things
as booting violators, changing maps, and sending
messages with “bound keys”, etc. Later you may want to
use the features or be asked to be console if you are
the only member of [SSPzA] on the server. There is more
information on the server on the “HOW TO” link from the
[SSPzA] site.
3. How do I get into a game that
is full?
First you need
to have the server password; which means you have to be
at least a Pvt. Once you have the password you must
activate the console. To do this you go into your main
screen in SH. (the big room) and click "options". Then
click "advanced". And put a check mark in the box next
to "console". From there you hit the "~" or"`" button,
which is right next to the #1 on the top or near top of
your keyboard. This will bring up the console. You then
type. Password "*****" (where ****** is the current
server password) and then press enter. Then you have to
reconnect to the server. If you tried to connect but it
said full, and you just entered the server password. You
can type "reconnect" in console and press enter and it
will reconnect. If not you can type. Connect
66.151.132.227 and press
enter.
Thanks Blank for
this answer.
4. What is “key” binding and how
would I use it?
Key binding is a
means to set up predetermined messages associated with
specific keys. As Blank explains
here:
hit the ~ / ` button to bring up
console... and type this.... bind k say "I own you
all hahahaha"
then when you press the "k" button on your
keyboard it will display like you were saying it "I own
you all hahahaha"
Bind key console
command
Examples...
Bind k say "BF
rules"
Press K and it will say "BF
rules"
Bind l
kill
Press L and you will take your self out of
commission
Bind o rcon say "[Col.KrazyPinoy]: ***Blank is a
noob***"
Press O and have the rcon pass entered and it
will say in console
"[Col.KrazyPinoy]: ***Blank is a
noob***"
You have to have console activated...that is
where commands are
typed.

Cheaters
Cheaters are a pain in the arse, I’m not
going to show you how to cheat, I’m just going to give
you a bit of advice on spotting them. Just let me
start by saying that cheating
is not the way to go, the whole idea of the game is to play
your best without cheating so that you know how
good you are. Sure
if your not that good of a player it can be frustrating,
but that doesn't give you the right to cheat and beat people who are better than you, if you’re
always the underdog then perhaps you should start putting in
some more hours of practice, because that’s the only way you will ever truly become a great
player. Modding, is it Cheating?
In the strictest sense yes modding is
cheating, but I tend to be a bit more lenient than, as
long as the advantage given is not major and no
serious changes have been made to the game, most people
shouldn't
mind.
Right now that I've had my little rant its
time to get back to the point, spotting those
who
cheat. Here is a list of the cheats that
I’ve come across
personally:
1. Head Shot
Bot
2. Increased Power and range of weapons
(i.e. shotgun)
3. Invisibility
4.
Invulnerability
5. What to do When You've Spotted a
Cheater
This is by no means a definitive list,
just what I’ve seen about, if you know of any more
kinds
of cheats then please email
me.
Head
Shot Bot
For most of us it’s quite difficult to
shoot people in the head all of the time, sure its not Impossible, but when the message comes up”
Unnamed Soldier was shot in the head by Unnamed
Soldier" over and over again, it’s likely that the person is using some
kind of head shot bot. It's a program that automatically shoots
people in the head, all they have to do is aim in the general direction of their target and
BANG, near enough instantaneous death.
Increased Power
and Range of
Weapons The shotgun,
what a weapon, powerful enough to
kill multiple opponents with one all
mighty blast. Where’s the catch? Of course, it
only works at very close range. For some people
out there though this is not the case, they have
managed to make the trusty old shotgun
devastating at long range as well. As you play the game you get a feel
for the weapons and the distances that they work the
best at, using this knowledge you can always tell when something isn’t
right. Invisibility, This one is also very annoying,
your on a role, bodies are falling beneath feet at every
turn and then spookily bang, your shot, you look
around and nobody is there, then
your hit again and again!
This could be due to a number of
things, someone is just out of sight or
they have a great hiding place, but if this keeps
happening at different locations
throughout the map then you can be sure some little git is
cheating. This can sometimes be accidental
though, when people are playing about with new skins, the adverse effect can be
invisibility, so don't go ranting and raving straight
away.
Invulnerability
This is the most obvious one, maybe not at
first but after a few minutes everyone will be
screaming out at the cheater. You shoot
them, they don’t die, they’re cheating, or are
they? I've been in situations before where I've
been in a gun fight with multiple opponents and
killed them all, limping away with just 4% health, that doesn't
make me a cheater although
it may seem that way to the people you’ve
just killed.
What
to do When Your Sure You've Spotted a
Cheater
First of all
you have to be absolutely certain that someone is
cheating, I've been falsely accused before and it isn’t fun, you can
damage a good players reputation. Don't start
screaming CHEAT if someone doesn't die
from your shotgun blast, they might just be lucky. If
you are sure then you have to tell who ever is running the
server the name of the cheat and what it is they
are doing, this way other people who haven't yet spoken
out could confirm what you are saying. In a busy game with a lot
of chat your message could be lost, so copy and
paste it and say it a few times in
capitals, don’t go on and on though
as this can be annoying, just enough times to get your message across.
Another thing to remember is the
content of what you are saying, don't
swear, there might be a few young un's about,
just be straight to the
point, there's no need to sink down to there level by
going off your head, just stay calm.
