25. Kuwabara's Fight of Love

Yusuke and the others reach the top of the mansion, where Tarukane and the Toguro Brothers were waiting. The older Toguro brother uses the younger Toguro brother as a weapon because the younger Toguro brother can change shape. So the older Toguro brother uses his brother like a sword and fights against Kuwabara. Toguro beats Kuwabara and Yusuke tries his hand in battle. Yusuke is also easily beat. Before Toguro was about to kill Yusuke, Kuwabara reveals some hidden power that he found from his love for the maiden Yukina. Kuwabara and Yusuke do a tag team finish as Yusuke fires his Spirit Gun at Kuwabara so Kuwabara gets the extra speed to strike Toguro in the chest. Toguro falls to the floor beaten. Meanwhile in the balcony above, Hiei arrives and takes care of Tarukane. He does not kill him though because Yukina stops him.

26. Toguro Returns

It starts with Kuwabara chasing Yukina in the Ice World (Kuwabara has a crush). Yukina explains to him that she must return to her world and she walks away. When Kuwabara is back in his world, Yusuke, Botan, and a few of his friends gamble on what's wrong with Kuwabara. He walks away and his friends chase him. Yusuke and Botan have a talk about Hiei. Then Yusuke and Hiei are at the Ice World. Yusuke explains to Hiei that this might be the last chance to tell Yukina that he is her brother. Hiei walks away. Then Yusuke and Botan talk about the last case and the tape. Botan runs and Keiko appears for their date. Meanwhile in Spirit World, Botan talks to Koenma on Yusuke's success. Then an orge comes in and tells Koenma that his tuxedo is cleaned for Yusuke's funeral! Botan is furious. Another ogre comes in and inserts a tape after the battle with Toguro. The tape reveals that both of the Toguro's deaths were fake. Sakyo appears on a screen and tells Toguro his plan. Toguro wants to fight Yusuke at a Dark Tournament. At the date Yusuke and Keiko stop at a store and Keiko shops and try clothes on. Yusuke attempts an escape but fails. When they leave the store, a little part of a building is crumbling and a crowd of people are near. Yusuke and Keiko drop in. Then outside of the crowd on a motorcycle is Toguro. Yusuke steps aside and sees Toguro. They talk, then Toguro cuts Yusuke's shirt and tells him to meet him at the construction site. At the site, Toguro shows 60% of his power, and he says in their last battle he was only using 20%. Showing off his power he starts destroying beams at the site. The top half of the site has been destroyed and Yusuke's in the rubble. Toguro tells Yusuke about a tournament on a place called Hanging Neck Island and that he has to fight or Toguro will kill everyone he knows and Yusuke himself. He leaves and Kuwabara is at another building looking at Yusuke surprised. On the way down Toguro sees Kurama and Hiei and tells them about the tournament. Both accept. The next day Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hiei practice for 3 months and Yusuke practices with Genkai. After 3 months Yusuke is nowhere to be found. When all 3 of them are about to board the ship to the island with a whole bunch of demons, Yusuke appears with a masked fighter (all teams need to have 5 members).

27. The Dark Tournament Begins

The time goes by quick and the day for the Dark Tournament arrives. Yusuke, Hiei, Kurama, Kuwabara, and a mysterious masked fighter reunite and go on a boat, which would take them to the destination of the tournament. On the boat, they have the qualification rounds. All of the fighters must duke it out in a Battle Royale, and whoever wins gets to enter the tournament. Yusuke's team easily wins the battle. They arrive at the island and everyone checks into their hotel room. The next day the Dark Tournament begins, so they decide to rest.

28. First Fight

Team Urameshi enters the stadium where they get ready for their first fight, but Yusuke, exausted from his training, is asleep. Outside the arena, Botan, Keiko, and Kuwabara's sister, Shizuru, arrive at the tournament. They are there to see Yusuke and the others. They run into Ogre and older Koenma, as he is sick of everyone making jokes of him being a kid. Koenma and Ogre enter the stadium as they have VIP seats. Back at the Tournament, the other team, Team Rokuyukai, arrive. The tournament announcer allows the teams to decide how they want the match to be. Since Yusuke is asleep, Kuwabara is the team captain. He decides one-on-one. So, Rinku steps in the ring, followed by Kuwabara. The fight begins and Kuwabara has the upper hand at first, until Rinku pulls out some magic Yo-Yos that he uses to tie around Kuwabara and send up a couple hundred feet up into the air. Rinku decides to end the fight easily by dropping Kuwabara from the air.

29. Flowers of Blood

Rinku repetitively smashes Kuwabara into the arena floor. Hiei begins to doubt Kuwabara and his training but Kurama reassures Hiei that Kuwabara still has a few aces up his sleeve. Rinku begins to feel lazy and thinks of an idea to finish Kuwabara off without lifting a finger, he summons up his spirit energy and cycles it throughout his Serpent Yo-Yo's lifting Kuwabara off the ground and into the sky. Shizuru doesn't seem to worry one bit for her brother's safety while Keiko yells at Yusuke to wake up and help Kuwabara. Koenma tells Ogre to help the girls and make sure they stay safe. Ogre asks why doesn't Koenma do the same thing and Koenma said that he is the owner of the team and he has to watch the fights. A large, oafish demon then appears in front of Keiko and says Yusuke's finished. Keiko tells the demon otherwise, saying that Yusuke has beaten creatures 100 times stronger than his. The large demon charges Keiko and Keiko pretty much cowers while Shizuru sticks her lit cigarette on the demon's tongue. Koto (the announcer) tells Rinku to ask the fans what they want. He does and they said that they want to see Kuwabara drop. Rinku says he has to do what the fans want and pulls the yo-yo's down. The yo-yo's do release from Kuwabara though, allowing him to use his hands. Kuwabara summons his Spirit Sword to grow and he uses the sword as a backward bungee cord, breaking his fall. He hurls himself toward Rinku through the air and Rinku prepares to throw his Serpent Yo-Yo's at Kuwabara again. Kuwabara pulls out another Spirit Sword and Rinku tells him its useless. Kuwabara has a new trick though and that is the fact that he can make his Spirit Sword bend. Kuwabara has been hit with the yo-yo's and Kuwabara hit Rinku with the Sword and they both land out of the ring. Koto starts the count and at 5 Rinku manages to get up and get back into the ring. Yusuke insults Kuwabara calling him stupid and Kuwabara gets up at the 6 count. He storms over to where Yusuke is supposedly sleeping and he starts yelling at him. Koto gets pretty impatient by the 8 count and Kuwabara starts to get back in the ring. Rinku stops him though because he doesn't want to fight anymore by summoning his yo-yo's again and tying Kuwabara up. Kuwabara can't move and falls back outside the ring. Koto reaches the 10 count and Rinku is pronounced the winner. Rinku does seem to be very hurt though and goes over to a corner to heal himself. Roto of Team Rokuyukai is angry though, because Rinku didn't get the kill. Roto steps into the ring and Kurama anxiously steps up as well. Hiei tells Kurama that their team couldn't afford another loss and to kill his competitor. Botan finally gets down to the ringside and steps in as team trainer. Kuwabara wants her to heal his wounds but Botan is more concerned about Yusuke waking up so she slaps his around a little bit. Back to the fight, Kuwabara wonders how Kurama stores his Rose Whip and Hiei tells him that Kurama keeps a single rose with him and when he must use it, Kurama manipulates the rose into becoming the Rose Whip. Roto makes a sword out of his hand and starts slicing at Kurama. Kurama easily dodges the strikes until Roto calls him Suichi, Kurama's human name. Roto pulls out a button saying that one press of the button will signal his demon brother who has been stalking Kurama's human mother to kill her. Roto starts punching Kurama in the face while Kurama throws a pebble at Roto's face. Roto gets angry and tells Kurama to fold his hands behind his back. Roto kicks Kurama in the stomach and begins to punch him. Roto once again unleashes his sword and cuts Kurama's face. Roto now wants Kurama to lick the scum off his boot and tells him after that he will kill him and spare his mother. Kurama disagrees and tells Roto to press the button. Just as he is about to, Kurama paralyzes Roto and snatches the button away from his hand. Kurama told Roto that he had sown the Seed of the Death Plant in his body while he threw the pebble as a distraction. Kurama said it was risky to put all his hopes into one threat because he may not even care for his mother or he could just make him immobile. Roto asks Kurama for mercy and asks even if he believes in mercy. Kurama says no and the Death Plant springs out of Roto's body. Kurama states that it was ironic for such a beautiful plant to have sprung from such an ugly soil. Hiei tells Kurama that Roto's demon brother vanished the moment Roto died.

30. Dragon of Darkness Flame

Their supposed leader Zeru comes out and with Yusuke asleep (he is exhausted from his training with Genkai) Hiei volunteers to fight. Zeru uses fire attacks that seem to kill Hiei but they just burn some of his clothes. Hiei then says it is all over and uses his most powerful attack the dragon of darkness flame. He says he will only use his right hand to control it. The attack goes and hits Zeru. Zeru's body ends up being a pile of ashes on the stadium wall. 2 Rokuyaki members try to run but they are killed by Chu. Chu turns out to be the true captain of the team. Yusuke wakes up and, after dissing all the demons in the stadium, says he will fight Chu.

31. Stumbling Warrior

Yusuke is finally awake and must face Chu. Yusuke attacks first, but Chu avoids it. Chu starts to wobble around the ring, confusing Yusuke. He then uses his strange technique to attack Yusuke and hits Yusuke. Then Yusuke attacks, but Chu is able to dodge all of the punches. Yusuke gets angry and starts attacking Chu. He begins to get some punches on Chu, but Chu also hits Yusuke. Chu then gets another attack on Yusuke. Yusuke kicks him off and shoots a Spirit Gun at him. Chu decides to fight back with his own spirit energy. He fires a huge ball of energy at Yusuke and hits him. He shoots another one at him, but Yusuke counters by shooting a Spirit Gun. It goes through the ball and hits Chu. Both men are knocked down, but both are still able to fight. Both men then are gasping for air and see that they have no spirit energy left.

32. Knife-Edge Death Match

Yusuke and Chu are both exhausted and have no spirit energy left. They decide to finish the fight with a knife edge death match. Chu sets up two daggers in the ring which are their boundaries. They will finish the fight using just physical attacks and brute strength. Both fighters land hits on each other, but there seems to be no one with an advantage. Both continue to land hard punches on each other. Keiko gets tired of seeing the fighting and decides to stop it. She runs off and Shizuru chases after her. Shizuru loses her and ends up with demons chasing her. Sakyo helps her outs and takes her out of trouble. When he leaves it seems that Shizuru has taken a liking to Sakyo. Meanwhile, Keiko has made it to ringside, but Kuwabara tells her that Yusuke wants to fight to prove himself. Both men desperate to win decide to use one final attack. They both go for head butts. After a moment Chu goes down. After the ten count Yusuke is the winner by knockout. Team Yurameshi now is advancing to the second round of the tournament.

33. A Day in Waiting

The next day Yusuke can't use his Spirit Gun anymore. Kurama watches the other fights of their possible opponents. He sees a team with three humans with strong spirit energy, team Ichigaki. Meanwhile, Yusuke is wandering through the forest. He is attacked but cant use the Spirit Gun to defend himself. His attackers teammate appears and stops him. He ends up killing his teammates because they insists on killing Yusuke. In the hotel Yusuke tells Kuwabara that he cant use his Spirit Gun. The masked fighter tells him its his fault for using too many of them so quickly. Yusuke and Kuwabara are both surprised to hear that the voice is that of a young lady. Yusuke believed that it was Genkai under the mask. At the stadium they watch team Toguro fight. Toguro is the only one that shows up for Team Toguro. He single-handedly beats the other team. When Team Urameshi sees the schedule they see that theyve been cheated. With only eight teams left they must fight three teams just to get to the finals (three fights should win them the tournament). Their next opponent is Team Ichigaki.

34. Percentage of Victory

The battle begins between the Dr. Ichigaki Team and the Urameshi Team. Since the other two members of the Urameshi Team, Kurama and Hiei, haven't shown up yet, the doctor suggests a 3-on-3 battle. It seems his other two haven't shown up either. Yusuke accepts, and he, Kuwabara, and the masked fighter step up to the challenge. Meanwhile, Kuwabara and Hiei are on their way to the ring when they are sidetracked by two men, one who looks like a panther/jaguar and the other, resembling a python. The python rushes them, and is quickly disposed of by the two. The other, however, is more resourceful, and calls on a huge robot, built by the doctor himself, that is mostly robot, and a little demon, that knows no pain, to take care of the two fighters. Back in the ring, Yusuke and Kuwabara are having a tough time against the three fighters. They each like to rush one person all at once, using devastating moves to deter them from attacking. The masked fighter gets a few good hits in, but it's nothing to subdue the three. Dr. Ichigaki begins to calculate the Urameshi Team's percentage of victory, at it eventually comes to a 99.95% chance of them losing. He cackles at the thought, and watches the battle with relish. In the forest, Hiei and Kurama are busy avoiding the robot's ever-stretching spiked arms. Hiei tries whacking it with his sword, but it's to no avail, and he's quickly cornered against a tree by the robot's claw. Kurama quickly comes and intervenes, rescuing Hiei and causing the two claws to smash into each other. He finishes off the job with his Rose Whip, easily slashing the vital circuits to the robot. He informs the tiger-man that not being able to feel pain is truly a weakness, since it neglects to tell a creature about not exposing its vital points for an attack. Meanwhile, Kuwabara gets some strange visions from the opposing team. It seems, before they were employed by Ichigaki, the three fighters were students under a strong fighting master. He received strange illness one day, however, which stunted their training. That's when the Dr. Ichigaki appeared, with a proposal. He would cure their master's illness, if those three fighters would become his test subjects for a bit. It seemed he neglected to tell them that they would be his test subjects for the rest of their life, and be forced to kill. With mindless drones as their opponents, it's looking bleak for the Urameshi Team.

35. Glimpse Behind the Mask

The Urameshi Team continue their fight against the Dr. Ichigaki Team. Kuwabara wants to stop fighting, however, and save the mindless souls inside. The masked fighter is forced to take a hit for Yusuke, when he's busy yelling at Kuwabara. She's thrown back and slammed into the side of the ring, presumably unconscious. It's up to Yusuke and Kuwabara to fend for themselves in the ring, and they're failing miserably. Kuwabara still refuses to fight, however, intent on rescuing from their dark fates. Ichigaki eggs them on, still in glee over the Urameshi Team's .05% percentage of victory. Kuwabara leaves himself open for a critical blow, still trying to figure out what's wrong with them, but the masked fighter once again does crushing blow to his attacker, sending him sprawling. Her mask in tatters, she's revealed to be a short, young woman with pink hair, and a beautiful face. Everyone is surprised that the fighter isn't Genkai, like they had assumed. She berates them for standing still, and Kuwabara insists that they're still good of heart, somewhere, deep down there, and tells the woman the visions that he sees. She elaborates, informing them that Ichigaki was actually what caused their master the disease in the first place meaning they were stuck inside this murderous job long before they were aware of it. Enraged at the sick doctor, Yusuke and Kuwabara go to attack him, but they're repelled by the three fighters. Kuwabara shouts at them, trying to snap them back, but it can't break the hold Ichigaki has on their body systems. Suddenly, from the sky, the two other fighters from the Ichigaki team come crashing down, along with Hiei and Kurama, standing on top of the totaled robot. They tell everyone what happened, and try to enter the fight. The announcer stops them, telling them both teams already agreed to a 3-on-3. Hiei and Kurama are forced to watch from the sidelines. Kuwabara still tries to snap them out of it, and they pummel him to the point of death, sending him flying out of the ring. The pink-haired woman tells Yusuke something interesting, however, it seems that the fighters intentionally missed hitting all his vital points by mere inches meaning they are actually at war with their bodies, little by little. With Kuwabara out of commission, Yusuke is forced to end it. He realizes they haven't been saying just "kill" all along but "kill us". Forced with no other option, he rises up into the sky and prepares an immense Spirit Gun, capable of destroying the entire Ichigaki Team.

36. Ambition Destroyed: A Trial of Light

The masked fighter stops Yusuke from using his Spirit Gun, and tells him she'll do it herself. She starts chanting in a strange tongue, and then seems to paralyze the warriors in their tracks. She stabs them each in the heart with her finger, and then stops, and they fall to the ground, presumably dead. Kuwabara and Yusuke are both shocked at her methods, but she assures them that it was all that she could have done. With that done, the Urameshi Team confronts Ichigaki himself. The coward still tries to weasel himself out, saying that their master is still sick, and only he has the cure. Hiei and Kurama prove him wrong, however, when the master of the dojo appears from the hallway, standing, although a bit weak. Hiei says that after beating up Ichigaki's fifth fighter, they found the whereabouts of the master, and Kurama easily created a cure for the minor illness. With no other way out, Ichigaki injects himself with a strange serum, morphing him into a huge, hulking beast with stretchable arms. He attacks them all, and when Hiei steps up to finish him off, Yusuke insists that he be the one to take him. He gives Ichigaki a ruthless beating, yelling at him the whole time, and eventually gives him a supercharged uppercut straight into the stands. With the Ichigaki Team dissolved, the Urameshi Team has won their second round. The win is short-lived, however, since Yusuke and Kuwabara are still depressed about the death of the innocent fighters. The masked fighter tells them to look again, and the three fighters get up. She tells them that she used the Spirit Wave technique, a technique that uses an opponent's spirit energy against him. If their true heart is evil, then their spirit energy will destroy them, but if it is truly good, then they won't die. Yusuke and Kuwabara are thrilled to know that no innocent lives were lost. The fighters are re-united with their master, and all seems well. Suddenly, the voice of the committee blares out through the arena, stating that the next match will begin immediately...and Team Urameshi will be fighting it! Everyone is in shock that they're being forced to fight two matches back to back, especially when everyone is still in bad condition. The next team appears, five fighters in dark black cloaks.
