13. Yusuke vs. Rando, 99 Attacks

The show starts out with Yusuke barely being able to stand, and Rando looking unfazed from his fight as Shorin. Yusuke goes in to end the match quickly throwing tons of punches and then punches Rando in the face. Rando is unharmed and says this match won't take long if only half of him can still throw a punch as he is low on Spirit Energy. Rando uses life force thread which ties up Yusuke. It's connected to Rando's power so Yusuke can't break it. Yusuke says it's boring that way so Rando swings him around into trees and into the ground. After a little while, Rando drags Yusuke over to a tree and ties the Thread to a branch. Rando asks how he's feeling and Yusuke says to take a guess. Rando then summons hatefish into the water and then a demon. He throws the demon into the water and gets mutilated by the Pirahna-like hatefish. Rando then shows that he's copied Yusuke's Spirit Gun and shoots a tree behind him to demonstrate the power. Then he shoots the branch Yusuke's hanging from and Yusuke falls into the pond. Kuwabara's soul goes into the water and starts saying how he wasted his time trying to fight a wimp like Yusuke and that maybe they'll make him a Spirit Detective cause he's not a wuss. Yusuke gets mad and uses his Spirit Energy to shred the fish and the thread. Rando is amazed that he was able to do that, but doesn't mind as it gives him the chance to kill him with his own move. They wait and Rando shoots some air bubbles thinking it was Yusuke when he jumps out of another pond and blasts Rando with the Spirit Gun and Rando does the same to Yusuke, Yusuke says that he's doing it wrong cause he's holding too much back. Yusuke's shot breaks through and knocks Rando into the water. Yusuke also says that you can do it that way but it doesn't hold the stopping power like normal. Yusuke wishes that Rando's dead cause he's got nothing left. But Rando blows out the water in the pond and says he doesn't like feeling pain. Rando proceeds to pummel Yusuke into the ground. Rando is amazed at how much damage the blast did as he barely has enough energy left to kill Yusuke. Yusuke tries to bluff by saying he's dangerous even if it looks like he can't move at the moment. Rando doesn't buy it and Yusuke says he must have got him good as he can't hear. Rando begins the chant to shrink Yusuke but it back fires and Rando gets hit instead. Rando wonders how that happened and Genkai says that the victim has to hear the chant. Yusuke sits up wondering why everything's so quiet when he pulls some swamp algae out of his ear. Genkai remarks that Rando knows the power of his techniques but doesn't know the consequences. Rando says that all he has to do is use the reverse chant and Yusuke stands up asking Rando if he thinks he'd really let him do that. Yusuke performs his Super Elbow Drop and Rando gets knocked out. Genkai announces Yusuke as the winner of the Genkai tournament and Yusuke says to wait till tomorrow till they have a celebration. Genkai heals Kuwabara and says to take him to his house Yusuke starts looking forward to the Tokyo Dome and Botan is amazed that he still remembers that. Genkai says no as they start the 6 month training session the next day.

14. The Beasts of Maze Castle

The episode starts off when Keiko asks Yusuke's mom when he's coming back. Yusuke's mom says that Yusuke said something special was supposed to happen after 6 months. Keiko's walking home when someone starts walking towards her. It's Yusuke back from his "Evil Boot Camp" as he calls it. Keiko's buying some milkshakes while Kuwabara discuses what he did at "Grandma's" and he says he'll be having nightmares for the next four years. Keiko overhears the last bit of them talking and Yusuke says Kuwabara said that he wanted to see a movie. They walk to the theater when Yusuke says they have to go buy manly things. Kuwabara asks what he means and Yusuke says they're being followed. The two lead them to an alley and Yusuke performs one of the new moves he learned in training. The Shotgun, an attack the shoots the enemy with many bullets made from Spirit Energy. The attack stops the 5 enemies and Kuwabara senses that another inhuman person is near them. He runs into Botan who hits him with a bat. Botan says that Yusuke has another case which ticks off Yusuke since he's just back from hell's training. Botan convinces Yusuke, and she says the boys Yusuke just beat up actually had a bug in them which is called the Makai-insect. These bugs turn everyone against each other because they want blood and destruction. They can only live outside the Spirit World with a special whistle which fell into the wrong hands. The demons in control of the whistle will give it up if they're let into the human world. However Koenma wants to send Yusuke in through a small hole in the barrier (which is why they can't get out). The two realize that Kuwabara just heard the whole thing and he decides to tag along. They enter through the hole and are immediatley attacked by a horde of demons coming up from the ground. Then through the hole they came from a bright light appears scaring the demons away and two small balls land on a tree and it turns out to be Kurama and Hiei, who says that if they can't last against the demons they're in trouble. Hiei says that they'll do the fighting in the castle and says that humans are weak (well actually just Kuwabara) and Kuwabara tries to hit him but he's too fast. Hiei says he'll get his revenge on Yusuke who answers that he'll take him on if they make it out alive. When they enter the gate a one-eyed bat appears and gives them the Gate of Betrayal Trial. The trial is that the wall comes on top of the four people who have to hold it up, but there's only enough room for one to make it past and that one is worthy to enter while the others are crushed under the weight.

15. Genbu, the Stone Beast

Yusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama and Hiei are all in the Gate of Betrayal. Yusuke convinces Hiei to go and pull the switch so he goes but doesn't pull the switch. The bat-like thing flying around tells Hiei he made a wise choice because if he had, a boulder would fall on him. Then he pulls the switch and dodges the boulder, slices the bat-like thing, and the mission continues. They reach a room and waiting inside is Genbu, the first Saint Beast. Kurama decides he will first first. The fight begins with Genbu showing them he can go into the floor with a cheap move. He puts only his tail inside, makes it come behind Kurama, who senses it at the last moment but still gets hurt. Kurama pulls out a rose and transforms it into a Rose Whip, which can cut through anything and he slices up Genbu. Yusuke and the others cross the room about to go up the stairs when Kurama senses the fight isn't over. Genbu reforms himself and starts using his body as bullets to attack Kurama. Kurama continues dodging and sees a red stone in his body. After a few more tries, he gets his hand on the stone and Genbu reforms totally messed up. Kurama then explains it was a part of his brain which controls how he reforms. He cuts the stone in half and Genbu explodes.

16. Byakko, the White Tiger

The gang tell Kurama that he can't fight anymore in Maze Castle because Genbu injured him too badly. Kuwabara says he will be the next to fight and ignites his new and improved Spirit Sword. He doesn't need to use the wood from the sword anymore and he can change the length. Botan calls Yusuke over the Spirit Communicator and tells him that the Saint Beasts have launched another wave of Makai insects and that the people of Earth are getting hit with them easier. Botan then gets chased by a possessed man and is barely able to knock him out. Then Byakko makes the castle begin to crumble. They race for their lives and reach the outside where Byakko is waiting for them. Byakko destroys most of the platform they are walking on, only leaving a bridge to cross to his platform. Kuwabara crosses the platform to fight Byakko. Byakko pulls out four strands of his hair and launches it at the floor. Four smaller tiger monsters emerge and attack Kuwabara. Kuwabara uses his Spirit Sword and still it is not enough to escape the tigers attacks. Yusuke wants to help Kuwabara, but Kuwabara won't allow it. Yusuke then talks some sense into Kuwabara and he runs back towards the others. The tigers follow him. Kuwabara turns back around and lengthens his sword, and begins attacking all the tigers. The tigers then begin to run at Kuwabara. He leads them around a tower and locks them together. Byakko gets mad and destroys the tower. Byakko then steps up to fight Kuwabara. Kuwabara makes another Spirit Sword. Byakko can smell Kuwabara's fear. This angers Kuwabara and he attacks Byakko. Kuwabara begins to get weaker with every move he makes. He then notices that Byakko is growing, and it is because of Kuwabara's Spirit Energy. Kuwabara doesn't want to give up and continues to fight.

17. Byakko's Lair

Kuwabara doesn't give up when he is told to and he continues the fight with Byakko. Kuwabara charges at Byakko and puts his sword straight into Byakko's mouth. Byakko just consumes the whole sword and continues to get bigger. Kuwabara's Spirit Energy is almost completely tapped out and he only has enough energy left to make a Spirit Dagger. Kurama explains to the others that Byakko has a weakness. Kuwabara thinks he has pinpointed the weakness and goes into attack. Byakko also attacks and almost hits Kuwabara, but he counters. Kuwabara puts the dagger through Byakko's stomach, and he absorbs it. Byakko then can't contain all the energy he has taken in and gets Spirit Energy Indigestion which causes Byakko to explode. All of Kuwabara's energy returns back to him and he returns to the others when Yusuke gets a call from Botan. Botan tells the gang more bad news on how the Makai Insects are becoming harder to kill. A demon possessed man then comes up behind Botan and attacks her, but she easily disposes of him and the Transmission ends. Byakko's voice is then heard throughout the castle...He is still alive and challenges Kuwabara in his Lair. The bridge where they were fighting immediately crumbles. The gang rush into the next tower which turns out to be Byakko's lair. The Lair is full of nothing but platforms and a floor of molten lava. Byakko is in the center and appears to be totally unharmed. Kuwabara goes into attack, but Byakko has some surprises of his own, The Tiger Scream. Byakko uses the Tiger Scream and destroys all the platforms except for two on Kuwabara's die of the Lair. Kuwabara summons another Spirit Sword. Byakko uses the Tiger Claw Attack and slashes Kuwabara's chest. Kuwabara promises he won't stop fighting until he dies. Then, as Byakko shoots another Tiger Scream, Kuwabara jumps onto the last platform on his side of the Lair. Byakko then fires one last Tiger Scream and destroys the last platform. Kuwabara uses his Spirit Sword like a pole vault and pushes himself back up into the air, kicking Byakko into the lava, killing him.

18. Seiryu, the Blue Dragon

After Kuwabara's ferocious battle with Byakko the White Tiger the team reaches a hallway with a dozen doorways. Only one of which leads forward, the rest lead to death. Kuwabara senses something big behind one of the doors, and says that it is the way, after a short speech he opens the door and lets loose a high-pitched scream when he sees a mouse. The team go down this passage until they arrive at an ice covered door. Two statues of blue dragons in vicious poses are placed to the sides. A voice beckons them to enter. Upon entering they meet Seiryu. He stands at at least 12 feet and his tunic has a dragon coiling around it. Suddenly they sense another presence in the room. From behind them Byakko staggers in. He begs Seiryu to help him, but is slain by his own ally, a tear drips from his eye as he dies. Disgusted by Seiryu's lack of honor, Hiei refuses the offer to join the Saint Beasts and decides to fight. He tosses his cloak atop Byakko's face in respect and prepares to fight. Seiryu sends volleys of ice attacks at Hiei, but is shortly cut to pieces by an attack that he cannot even see. We learn later that Seiryu was perhaps the weakest of the Saint Beasts. Hiei takes back his cloak as Byakko's body fragments vanish.

19. Suzaku, Leader of the Beasts

Yusuke and the others continue on as they got closer to the Castle Tower where Suzaku was. Suzaku sent out Cultivated Humans to deal with our heroes and dispose of them before they could reach him. Hiei, Kuwabara, and Kurama dealt with the Cultivated Humans, while Yusuke made his way inside the tower by using the others as a ladder to reach a window. Meanwhile, Keiko and Botan are having some trouble of their own as the humans on Earth are all under the Makai Insects control. Yusuke reaches Suzaku who is watching a viewer of what his minions are doing to Keiko and Botan. This enrages Yusuke and the fight between the two begins. Yusuke uses his Spirit Gun and it has not much affect against Suzaku. Suzaku uses a powerful attack called the Storm of Torment (a lightning attack), that nearly almost kills Yusuke. Yusuke takes off his shoes and puts them on his hands. Suzaku thinks he is trying to use the rubber to stop the attack.
