CONCLUSION Introduction The intrusion of the Ebola virus is a result
of mans closer contact with the rainforest, due to population pressures and
land pressures. The GIS analysis points clearly to this fact - the
correlation cannot be ignored. Besides this study, other agencies too are
beginning to realise the importance of this
correlation. Though the theory is a new one, voiced by a few, it is now being
taken seriously. The American government is now monitoring areas of outbreaks
and recording time series analyses of change of forest cover in these
regions. The importance of good data on this potential threat has been realised and research is being carried out. This study arises from a concern regarding
the destruction of rainforests in particular and precarious ecosystems such as
mangrove forests as a whole. The subject of the virus is a fascinating one,
to be regarded seriously. The frequency of virus crashes into the human race
is increasing, and it seems that nature is reacting to environmental
degradation and destruction. As a final word, it is interesting to
think about what this portends. Nature
is an ordered chaos Man exists in, and because of an ordered chaos. The planet earth, home to close to six billion people is in a
perpetual state of imbalance. The biosphere is ever seeking to reach a
balance – and through this eternal shifting towards balance, life exists. The
climate of the earth is an expression of nature trying to reach a balance. Nature is ever seeking to equalise,
to seek a precarious balance and yet never succeeding. · Disturbing the process
of equalisation Man has disturbed this process of equalisation.
The activities of man over the past 200 years have served to destroy what took billions of years to form. The environmental and ecological destruction has destroyed large segments and has sent shocks into the biosphere, threatening it with mass extinctions. · Immune reaction against
the 'human virus' Nature must, is and will continue to seek to
balance this intrusion of the human race into the biosphere. The earth seems
to be mounting its own defence systems to the
degradation caused by man. The earth seems to have its own immune system, and
the immune system appears to be recognising the
invasion of the ‘human virus’. Maybe it is a process of natural selection –
The human being with its evolutionally weakened immune system is an ideal
host for the replication of viruses, who are looking to ensure their own
survival by replication. So many billion human beings are an ideal medium for
the virus to now replicate and establish itself as a successful life form. · Disregard for nature The processes and laws of nature cannot be
overruled and ignored, there must be compromises
made, solutions reached and harmony established. Man needs nature, needs
natural resources for his continued survival and yet man needs to respect
these very forces of nature. · Sustainable development Each action has a consequence – and we must
look far ahead to see this. Since it is impossible for us to think so far forward,
and if we are unable to do so, we should proceed with an utmost caution,
aiming at a sustainable development, harnessing nature in a wise, sustainable
and reasonable way.
If we fail, then, Ladies and Gentlemen, Nature will Find a Way
