North Star Bar - 3/13/08

Laura Cheadle was back in Philadelphia a month after Grape Street closed, cancelling her last area show. The replacement venue was the North Star Bar and she was booked as one of an impressive group of four female solo or -fronted soul and funk acts. She had plenty of time to talk to the fans and other musicians who were there, signing a guitar for one of them, and spelling out "Funky" with a container of Play-Doh given to her best friend Ashley. She had no bass player for this show, her father once again playing those parts on his keyboard. Her guitarist brother had to borrow a strap but ended up seated for the performance because it was too short. The show was impressive; Laura had much more room to move around the stage than World Cafe Live. Since it was a Thursday night and only female artists were performing it was a shame but understandable that not a lot of people showed but it was nice to see Laura again.

Another thing I liked was being able to take pictures from the second floor balcony
