Second only to
Yoda in terms of fighting skill, power and wisdom, Jedi Master Mace Windu was certainly not one to tangle with, as many found out though few were able to tell their tale.
    Born into the
Republic as a Korun from Haruun Kal, Mace was brought into the Jedi Order at a young age and trained by Yoda. He was then paired with a Master, whereupon he developed his amazing powers. Windu possessed a strong connection to the Force, and a magnetic personality. Even at rest he exuded confidence and authority. He rarely needed to use Jedi mind tricks to influence others, as his words alone carried enough weight. However, when his Force talents were called for, he dispatched enemies quickly and efficiently; Windu was a balanced, able fighter. Mace held a senior position on the Jedi Council, seated next to Yoda in the circular chamber. He also acted as a negotiator, as did many Jedi, aiding the Supreme Chancellor during the last decades of the Galactic Republic.
However, even he could not stop destiny. When
Qui-Gon Jinn brought young Anakin Skywalker before the Jedi Council, Mace had his doubts. Though Qui-Gon was sure he had found the Chosen One, Mace knew, as Yoda did, that such power could easily corrupt the boy. Nevertheless, Mace eventually allowed Obi-Wan Kenobi to train Anakin, though he made sure to keep an eye on him. Ten years on, Mace was still a leading member of the Jedi Council, but the Republic had fallen further into darkness. War was looming, and Mace soon realised the power of the Jedi was diminishing. When Obi-Wan Kenobi was captured by Count Dooku on Geonosis, Windu led a 200-strong Jedi task force to rescue him, while Yoda inspected a secret army of the Republic on distant Kamino. Mace confronted Count Dooku in the Geonosian arena, but Windu's confidence soon dropped. Thousands of battle droids marched against the Jedi, and soon only eighteen Jedi were left standing. Mace refused to surrender, but before the droids could finish the Jedi off, Yoda arrived. The Clone Wars began on Geonosis, with Mace leading platoons against the droid armies of the Confederacy. He would play a major role in the Wars for its duration, but the final battle of the campaign saw Windu's last stand against the Confederacy. He died in battle, becoming a martyr for a depleted cause.
