The organisation set up by a rogue Jedi, aiming to cripple the Republic and break the galaxy, the Confederacy certainly had a major impact on the galaxy, but its far-reaching could not compete with plans of darker nature....
Set up sometime in the decade before the Clone Wars, the Seperatist movement, under the leadership of Count Dooku, officially became the Confederacy of Independant Systems shortly before everything started to go wrong. For years, Dooku had been sowing the seeds that would tear the Republic apart, as thousands of star systems began to join his cause. He finally got the commerce guilds to join, so along with tens of thousands of systems, most represented in the Senate, the Seperatists became a formidable force. Supreme Chancellor Palpatine attempted to open negotiations with the secessionist movement, but Dooku was having none of it. He was too cynical about the Republic to believe the debates would get them anywhere. And Dooku's plans were already too far ahead to back down. The Confederacy was preparing for war.
Construction of various droid armies had begun around the time of the Battle of Naboo by the major commerce guilds of the Republic, so when Dooku enlisted them into his Confederacy, he had himself the greatest army in the galaxy...or so he thought. While meeting to finalize their plans on the Techno Union factory world of Geonosis, the Confederacy was attacked by the Army of the Republic. Forced to retreat, the leaders of the movement prepared their forces and mobilized them against the Republic, beginning the three-year Clone Wars. However, despite their vast resources, the Seperatists were eventually defeated....paving the way for Palpatine's rise to power. |
