By the time he became one with the Force on Dagobah, Yoda had lived through 900 years of wars, watching empires rise and fall, as well as friends and colleagues. Yet he managed to move beyond it all, and was considered by many as the greatest Jedi in history. Yoda's exact origins are a secret closely guarded by Yoda; he never told any of his fellow Jedi anything of his species or his homeworld. Yet he did not prefer to keep to himself, meditating alone as other Jedi did. He was a very active Jedi, even in his later years, training Jedi for around 800 years. He taught all new Jedi initiates at the Temple on Coruscant, before pairing them off with Masters. Yoda didn't just train Younglings either; he took on his own padawans over the years, among them the powerful Count of Serenno, Dooku, who was considered one of the Order's best swordsmen...after Yoda himself. The diminutive Jedi Master had perfected the Form IV style, which involved Force-enhanced acrobatics as well as deadly lightsaber manoeuvres. This, coupled with his amazing control of the Force, proved the two-foot-tall Jedi Master's skill matched his reputation. Yet even the greatest Jedi Master's vision could be clouded by the dark side, and so it was with Yoda. The Sith Lord Darth Sidious's evil plans were shielded by darkness, and were left a mystery to the Jedi until it was too late. Sidious declared himself Emperor, and established a New Order, supported by the very army Yoda had once led during the Clone Wars. Most of the Jedi Order was already destroyed, and with the Emperor's new apprentice hunting down the survivors, Yoda realised even he could not defeat the Dark Lords...this time. He fled to Dagobah, where he waited - for over twenty years - for the new hope that could restore peace to the galaxy. That hope did come, in the form of Luke Skywalker, who became Yoda's last apprentice; when Luke returned from a disatrous confrontation with Darth Vader, he found Yoda dying in his hut on Dagobah. Finally, the great Jedi Master's long life ended, and he became one with the Force. |
