| DARTH VADER Species: Human Born: 0 BE (19 BBY) Birthplace: Unknown Homeworld: Coruscant, various Affiliation: Sith, Galactic Empire Weapon: Lightsaber Vehicle: TIE Advanced X1, Super Star Destroyer Executor Significant Others: Luke Skywalker (son) Leia Organa (daughter) Palpatine (Master) Debut: A New Hope Death: Return of the Jedi The empitome of evil, personified in a dark-clad, deadly machine of the Dark Side, Lord Darth Vader is a man not to be crossed. After Anakin Skywalker was left for dead by his master Obi-Wan Kenobi, the dark side took over and created Vader, embodying him with hatred for Kenobi, and quashing Anakin's light deep down. Vader became Emperor Palpatine's Sith apprentice, and helped hunt down the last remaining Jedi, but never managed to find Kenobi during the purge. It was not until after plans for his Master's Death Star were stolen by Princess Leia that Vader was reunited with his former teacher. The two warriors fought on the battle station while Kenobi's allies raced to save the inprisoned Leia. Vader struck down his former master, and felt victory was in his grasp. Unfortunately, a Rebel pilot with an unusually strong connection to the Force, destroyed the Death Star, and left Vader spinning through space. Searching for the pilot who destroyed the station, Vader learned that he was in fact Luke Skywalker, Anakin's son. Vader made a point of meeting his child, and revealed Luke's parentage to him, hoping to make him his ally - though the Emperor wanted Luke to become his new apprentice, Vader wanted his son to join him, so they could destroy the Emperor and rule the galaxy together. Luke refused, and escaped his father injured and confused. Finally, during the Emperor's plan to lure the Rebels out of hiding, Vader was able to face his son again, only to be beaten by him on the second Death Star. However, Luke refrained from killing his father, standing tall before the Emperor as a Jedi, like his father once was. Angry at his failiure, Palpatine sent waves of Force lightning Skywalker, as Vader watched from his Master's side. It was at that point the lightness of Anakin pushed its way through the dark; Anakin Skywalker returned from Vader's black heart and killed Palpatine, saving his son but at the cost of his own life. Vader died not as an evil tyrant, but as the good man he once was, now finally free of the slavery of Palpatine, and of the dark side, that had almost destroyed him |
