He strove to protect others, and to defend the Republic. It is perhaps unfortunate therefore that he has been paired with people who seem his exact opposite; first a maverick Master, then a rebellious padawan. Some may call it bad luck, though in Kenobi's experience, there is no such thing. Obi-Wan was brought into the Jedi Order at the tender age of two, though he didn't become a padawan until it was almost too late. He was apprenticed to Qui-Gon Jinn, and, though their views of life and the living Force often clashed, the two had many adventures together. However, during the Naboo crisis, Qui-Gon was slain by a Sith Lord, leaving Obi-Wan to honour his Master and kill Jinn's murderer. This display of true strength and courage brought him the position of Jedi Knight, whereupon he began training young Anakin Skywalker. Again, both Master and apprentice chaffed, and Obi-Wan soon had doubts that Anakin was following the right path. Kenobi was right. After the Clone Wars - in which Kenobi became a General - Anakin embraced the dark side, and attacked his Master. Skywalker lost, and Kenobi left him for dead. However, Anakin survived, and Obi-Wan - now under the name 'Ben Kenobi' - took Skywalker's son to Tatooine, to watch over him until he could become a Jedi. When young Luke was ready, Ben taught him as he had once taught his father, but he was killed by Darth Vader - Anakin Skywalker - on the Death Star. Yet Ben still managed to help, guiding Luke from within the Force, to fufill his destiny and help restore the order that Kenobi was once used to... |
