"Dad! I think we're being tracked!" - Boba Fett, AotC |
DELTA-7 JEDI STARFIGHTER Type: Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor Manufacturer: Kuat Systems Engineering Affiliation: Jedi Order Weapons: 2 dual laser cannons Length: 8 meters Crew: 1 (+ 1 astrodroid) Debut: Attack of the Clones Though the Jedi protected the Republic through tactful diplomacy and non-agressive solutions to problems, there were times when they just needed a lightning fast starfighter to bring about justice...presenting the Jedi Starfighter... The Delta-7 can accomodate one Jedi - though space at the back of the cockpit usually reserved for spare parts could just about fit a prisoner - and one astrodroid. As Jedi pilots do not need the extra targeting and navigation an R3-D droid would provide, most Jedi Starfighters are fitted with R4-P astromechs - many of which are actually truncated units fixed permenantly into the starfighter. The Delta-7 is too small to carry a hyperdrive, and must rely on a hyperspace transport ring to reach lightspeed, though a number of advanced starfighters were later fitted with hyperdrives. The Jedi Starfighter was first tested by Adi Gallia during the lead-up to the Clone Wars, where she flew it in combat against Captain Toth's hex weapons. The Delta-7 passed its flight and fight tests, and was soon a mainstay of the Jedi Order. It was later used by Obi-Wan Kenobi to find the 'missing' planet Kamino, and to track the bounty hunter Jango Fett to Geonosis. Following Obi-Wan's investigation, many Jedi Starfighters were used to aid the Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. These Starfighters were given a turquoise hull, rather than the red which showed a Jedi's neutrality in conflict. |
The Jedi Starfighter's design was, of course, inspired by the Imperial Star Destroyers of the Classic Trilogy. In AotC, we begin to see how much of the Galactic Republic was subverted by Palpatine, and used in his Galactic Empire... |
