Like many small snubfighters of the age, the
Jedi Starfighter was too small to include a built-in hyperdrive, so an alternative had to be found for the many Jedi who worked individually on missions across the galaxy; the Syluire-31 hyperspace transport ring was it.
Created by TransGalMeg in the Rayter sector, the hyperspace transport ring - also known as a 'booster' or 'docking' ring - was basically a class 1.0 hyperdrive fitted to a spherical cradle. The starfighter would dock with the booster ring, allowing it to enter hyperspace.
Many of the TransGalMeg booster rings were used by the Jedi Order for their Delta-7 starfighters prior to and during the Clone Wars. The
Jedi Temple maintained a series of booster rings above Coruscant, in assigned orbits to allow for a fast response. Around the time of the Galactic Civil War, most snubfighters carried hyperdrives or were transported by cruisers, so hyperspace transport rings were no longer needed.
