For millennia the Jedi Temple on Coruscant has served as the training ground and home base of the Jedi Knights, peacekeeping defenders of justice in the galaxy.
The Temple accommodated around two hundred Jedi around the time of the Clone Wars, as well as various Youngling clans and Jedi academics. The Temple included training rooms and verandas, as well as personal rooms and offices for each Jedi - though Masters and apprentices usually shared a room - and a number of areas for meditation. The Jedi Temple also housed the vast Jedi Archives, maintained by Jocasta Nu, as well as analysis rooms. However, the most important Jedi manuscripts were kept in the Temple Spire, the centermost of the five towers atop the great Temple.
Among the other four spires - comprised of the Jedi High Council tower, the Council of First Knowledge, the Reassignment Council and the Council of Reconcilliation - sat the twelve members of the Jedi Council, who kept order within the ranks of the Jedi. From the High Council tower they discussed the important matters of the day, and it was in here that the Council decided Anakin Skywalker would be trained as a Jedi. The Temple was later left to ruin during the Jedi Purges, though it was never destroyed during Palpatine's New Order; the massive Force energies surrounding the site were still present even through the Yuuzhan Vong takeover of Coruscant. |
