Headstrong and rebellious to some yet gentle and calm to others, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn was certainly a powerful presence however one looked at him. He often went against the rules to find a solution to a problem, but he was always in touch with the living
Force, letting its will guide his actions.
Qui-Gon, like most other Jedi of the Republic, was taken from his homeworld at a very young age and trained at the
Jedi Temple on Coruscant. There, he made many friends, who saw through his rebellious nature to the kind yet strong being within. However, his actions put him out of step with the Jedi Council, and though his friends on the Council wanted him to join, he would not change his views. He taught two apprentices as a Jedi Master; the flawed Xanatos, who turned to the dark side and killed himself during a duel with his Master, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon's last padawan.
Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon's bond was strong, and the two of them shared many adventures together, yet their personalities were very different. While Qui-Gon was often at odds with the Masters on Coruscant, Obi-Wan managed to find his place in the Order, and lived to serve the Force. Still, they worked well as a team, each making up for what the other lacked. Qui-Gon and his padawan were both dispatched to mediate the Trade Federation's blockade of
Naboo, a mission that turned out to be anything but short, as Qui-Gon had predicted. After a trek across the galaxy - where Qui-Gon found and rescued Anakin Skywalker, whom he firmly believed was the Chosen One - Qui-Gon was given his last assignment; to protect Queen Amidala as she returned to fight the invaders of Naboo. Though his wish to train Anakin was denied, Qui-Gon still believed the boy would bring balance to the Force. So, after a fatal second encounter with Sith Lord Darth Maul - where the tiring Qui-Gon was run through by Maul's double-bladed lightsaber as Obi-Wan watched helplessly - Qui-Gon told his apprentice to train Anakin with his dying breath. Jinn was cremated in a somber ceremony on Naboo, though it appeared that he somehow managed to retain his identity after death - thought impossible before that time - and call out to Anakin as he began falling towards the dark side. It seems that even in death, Qui-Gon Jinn was as rebellious as ever.

Yes, that voice you heard during the Tusken slaughter in AotC is indeed Qui-Gon's. He should also be making an appearance in Episode 3, and the reason why he didn't disappear upon death will be revealed...
