The Empire always liked to show off its might, and the
Super-class Star Destroyer certainly did that. At 12,800 meters in length, the massive warship was an awesome and intimidating sight. Super Star Destroyers were only given to the most powerful members of Palpatine's Empire; among them the Dark Lord, Darth Vader.
    The Super Star Destroyer
Executor served as Vader's personal flagship, and was the first Super-class ship to be created. Vader was given command of the Executor after the Battle of Yavin, and was present during the invasion of Hoth as part of the mighty Death Squadron. From the ship's bridge, amid the layered city-like 'island' which covered most of the Executor's dagger-shaped form, Vader oversaw many battles, but wasn't present when the ship met its destruction above Endor. A damaged A-wing smashed into the bridge, diabling control, and sending the warship into the pull of the second Death Star's artificial gravity.
Only a small number of the
Super-class starships were constructed; as well as Vader's Executor, another Super Star Destroyer bearing the same name was created and given to Ysanne Isard. She renamed it Lusankya, and it became an infamous prison ship, buried under the surface of Coruscant. Others, such as Warlord Zsinj's Iron Fist, were later destroyed by the New Republic.
