TWIN PEAKS

1989 - 1991 ***** 1504 mins. (28 episodes at 47 mins. each, Pilot and First Episode of Second Season 94 mins. each)
Special Home Video Edition of the Series Premiere - 113 mins.

This is one of the greatest television series of all time (my third favourite, in fact). Created by David Lynch and Mark Frost, Twin Peaks is brilliant television that doesn't seem to exist anywhere else. The series feels more like a film rather than television and the viewer is constantly wondering what is going to happen next. The performances are superb, and every episode is as good as the one before it. Even though the second season does get a bit comical, it's still fantastic entertainment.

The show begins with the discovery of a dead body of a teenage girl named Laura Palmer. The first half of the series is a mystery, trying to find out the true identity of the killer. The Special Home Video Edition of the Series Premiere has extra footage added to give the viewer a killer, but don't let that be the end of it for you. The series goes much deeper and the killer as stated in the video is not exactly the killer. The second half of the series follows the characters through different aspects of their lives, leading to the final episode where the "Black Lodge" is finally revealed.

It truly sucks that this show was cancelled because there are so many things that could have been expanded on more. The last episode was made after David Lynch found out his show was being cancelled, so he ended it the best way he could (and a damn good way, if you ask me).

The complete series is hard to find. There is a Region 4 DVD release of it and a 1993 VHS collection (pictured above on the far right). The VHS collection does not include the pilot episode, though, and the original televised pilot is only available on a Region 0 import DVD.

Be sure to find a copy of the original CD soundtrack, for this series has one of the best musical scores ever composed.

So, find the series, take some time to visit the little logging town of damn good cherry pie and coffee, and try to unravel the world of Twin Peaks.
Not rated; contains sexual innuendo and violence.
