PLAY IT AGAIN, SAM

1972 ****1/2 85 mins.

This is a highly entertaining, superbly hilarious, wonderfully imaginative little film from the mind of Woody Allen. This film has been sorely overlooked in the eyes of movie watchers, and that's too bad. This film truly shows us the Allen that is to come, for it embodies the roots of what would evolve into his Oscar-winning Best Picture, Annie Hall (1977). Based upon the original play by Woody Allen, this film centers around Allen Felix, a movie buff who is tutored by the spirit of Humphrey Bogart. His wife has just left him, and his friends, a married couple played by Tony Roberts and Diane Keaton, try to fix him up with any eligible lady possible. When Allen begins to fall for Linda (Keaton), trouble ensues.
Rated PG for sexual candor.
