1979 ***** 96 mins.
When it comes to the story itself, Woody Allen hasn't done anything he hasn't done before. The story is simply a blend of Annie Hall and Play it Again, Sam. What makes this film special, though, is the use of the scope widescreen, the use of the black and white images, the use of music by George Gershwin, and the style of the direction. Woody Allen is truly at the top of his game with this masterpiece that goes above and beyond anything we've ever seen him do. Note: stay away from the VHS pictured above because, although it says "Deluxe Letter-box Edition", it is the original widescreen sretched out to a 1.85:1 aspect ratio.
Rated R for language and sexuality.
