To perfectly capture the very essence of Lemony Snicket's bestselling books into a film, I thought, could not be done. I was proven wrong. This film keeps intact every important aspect of the books and Lemony Snicket, while giving them all new qualities. Based on the first three books in the series (The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room, and The Wide Window), this film is a true modern marvel of filmmaking. Long-time fans of the books may find the ending of the film a bit unsatisfying, since it has a less "unfortunate" quality, but it works wonderfully well in the film. Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events is a fantastic film that everyone should see.
Rated PG for thematic elements, scary situations, and brief language.
