Jim Carrey truly shines in this marvelous film written by Andrew Niccol and directed by Peter Weir. Jim Carrey plays Truman Burbank, a man who begins to realize that the world around him is not exactly what it seems to be. His hometown, Seahaven, is really a giant television studio, and all of his friends and relatives (and even his wife) are all paid actors. His life is broadcast live 24 hours a day around the world. He is the only one who doesn't know it . . . yet. This is, truly, a milestone for Jim Carrey. If he could continue in this direction and leave behind the Ace Ventura days, then he will be well on his way to an Academy Award.
