During Oct-Decemeber 2004, Kerala politics was rocked by the re-opening of the IceCream Parlour case (also known as Calicut PenVanibham), in which the Muslim League minister PK Kunjalikkutty was involved in raping an underage (16 years) old girl. Kutty had to finally resign from the Cabinet. But by clever manouvres, this time also Kutty escaped any prosecution. Police and the Legal system have been effectively neutralized by those in power. Here we take a survey of news items appeared in the Kerala Newspapers (in Malayalam), mainly Deepika, Kerala Kaumudi and Mathrubhumi. A few items from Deshabhimani and Mangalam are also included.

News items appeared, clearly show the level of corruption engulfing the Kerala society and politics. The penVanibham minister (ex that time) was able to bribe the opposition government (LDF), in spite of the recommendations of the committe of female MLAs. Then CM Nayanar's office, CPM, CPI and KR Gowri played an instrumental role in erasing the case against PKK Kutty!

After all the news have been broadcast over the papers and the TV, people have afterall forgotten everything and gone back to their daily toil and hardships. Nothing happens to the criminals. Tomorrow you see the same criminals on stage, lecturing on morality!
