A little about me... My friend Alina refers to me as an "American woman who tries to survive in the Netherlands." I've been living in Hengelo, a city in the eastern part of The Netherlands, since August 2000 for a chance at love, adventure, and riding fast motorcycles. This is my boyfriend, Kees, and if you're surfing from the US during your lunch break, you can look in on him in his house. While you're visiting him, browse through his online photo album. If you don't see either one of us on the webcams it's because we're remodeling his house or taking long, romantic walks in town.
Other things I like (when I have the opportunity): Listening and dancing to Eighties or Industrial music, attending Science Fiction Conventions (where The Merchants of Deva hold some great parties!), or hanging out at SCA events with Clan Carn. If you like things a bit on the offbeat side, or small children stop and stare at you for no apparent reason, then maybe you should check out the SCA or the conventions.
Hengelo is a sleepy kind of place with about 80,000 residents. Despite what many Dutch people will tell you, it isn't completely boring: I've taken pictures of the annual fashion show, the usual postcard-type photos, Sinterklaas, Kerstmis, Koninginnedag, and the Nacht van Hengelo.
Kees and I don't spend ALL of our free time remodeling. These are pictures from daytrips to Bunnik, Delft and Amsterdam, the CeBIT technology expo in Hannover, Germany, 2001 as well as a romantic (and cold!) weekend trip to Paris.
