Delft

Delft is one of the prettiest of the old Dutch cities.  Check out their official website (click on the Union Jack for the English translation) for a more complete history.

This is the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church, built in the 14th century), where William of Orange is buried.  It was undergoing renovations when we visited, so I was unable to get any interior photos.

I have to comment that I'm always amused (bemused?) at the contrast of new vs. old.

This is also my first attempt at merging two images-- I couldn't get all of the church into one image with Kees' digital Leica.

I liked this clock.  The date listed under the "VI" is 1605.

I don't know much more about it.

The Stadhuis (Town Hall) was built in the early 17th century.  In the center of the building is a tower built in the 13th century.  It's directly across the square from the Nieuwe Kerk.

The "heart" of Delft?

It has lights on the inside.  Maybe someday we'll be able to get night photos.
