KERMIS

About the same time that Puyallup, WA, holds its annual Fair, Hengelo has the Kermis. It's nowhere near as large as The Puyallup, but then again, Puyallup doesn't set up carnival rides right in front of City Hall, stores, or apartment buildings.

When you exit Hengelo's train station, the SuperMouse is the first thing you see.

Overview of the Stationplein and the entrance to the Nieuwstraat.

This is from the 'back side' of the Market Square facing the church.

This didn't quite turn out how I'd hoped-- I wanted the church to stand out more-- but I like it anyway.

It's Thursday night after 10pm; the outdoor cafe is full of people looking at the empty kiddie-ride across the street.

In front of Hengelo's City Hall. Night shots with digital cameras aren't easy, but I like the swirly effect.

This is our street, the Telgen. Thanks to some changes made to the street lamps, we don't get the big noisy rides anymore. We get the games, soccer kick, and pony rides. Much quieter than a few years ago.

This is what you encounter within 40 steps of our front door.

This is from our bedroom window. It's the sort of ride that USED to be placed in the Telgen, before they changed the street lamps. Someone else's windows get to rattle with the noise that accompanies this sort of attraction.
