Hengelo Fashion Show 17 September 2000

This event is held every year by the local clothing boutiques.  It boasts one of the biggest outdoor catwalks-- one figure I've heard (but can't confirm) is 375 meters-- it surrounds an entire block.  I found some of the extra entertainment far more interesting than the fashions, so that's mostly what you'll see here.

I was a little afraid for this gal because it started raining.  She stayed outside, so she apparently had faith in the paint and/or fixative.

Luckily, it didn't rain too hard, or for too long.

Ok, so she carried an umbrella for a short time.

It seemed to me, though, as if she were more concerned for the dancer.

Not only did this woman wear some beautiful costumes, she could also dance well.  I wanted to take a better picture of her wearing this costume, but too many men kept getting in my way.

I've seen lots of tall people in Holland.

The drawback to having such a large catwalk is that you have to let normal pedestrian traffic through somewhere and kids like to see how many models they can dodge.

As mentioned before, the catwalk surrounded a city block (one of the few "square" city blocks I've encountered in Holland).  I tried to capture completely one of the 4 sides of the catwalk, but I only managed about 2/3 of that.

And if you're wondering about the strange structure on the right side of the photo, I've got better pictures on another page.
