Things I've Seen in Amsterdam

I enjoy being a tourist in Amsterdam-- but I'm not typical except that I take the usual things with me:  map, guidebook, camera.  I get off the train at Centraal Station and then wander in a random direction.  When I arrive at something interesting, I then look it up to see what I've found.  I realize this method means that maybe I'll miss something that would normally interest me, but on the other hand, I really enjoy the feeling of "discovery."

When you exit Centraal Station, the St Nicolaaskerk is immediately to your left.

Beautiful Zuiderkerk (Southern Church) built in 1614.

And, as with a lot of things in A'dam, undergoing reconstruction.

I thought this was a great way to hide the mess that accompanies reconstruction projects.

There are several marijuana shops in the city, but I liked this display the best.

They say successful stars often have substance abuse problems...

I was surprised that I didn't see any kids playing on this.  Of course, I also found it a little odd that there were no other toys nearby to play on.  After all, where's the fun in a playground if there isn't a variety of toys to fight over?

In April 2001, my friend Erika from Seattle travelled to Holland for a river cruise.  I visited her in A'dam on 4 April.  This is Erika in front of her tour boat.

As you can see by the clouds, the weather wasn't great.  I believe she encountered better weather on the rest of her trip.

I wanted to make sure I got a photo (in a dry location!) that captured her marvelous hair color.

Can you tell I'm fascinated by her hair?

We didn't get rained on quite as much as I'd feared, thank goodness.

I wish I could have spent more time visiting.
