Vilnius Gediminas Technical
University (VGTU) is one of the two technical universities in Lithuania and
the only one in the capital city. Although a young institution, the
University of Vilnius is becoming to receive an international reputation in
engineering education and research. In order to organize studies in foreign
languages, International Studies Centre (ISC) was established at VGTU in
1992. The following aims were pursued: integrating into the system of the
university education of the European countries and promoting international
exchange and mobility of students and staff. The ISC provides the primary
contact with foreign students on administrative matters. Undergraduate studies are organized in English and postgraduate studies in
English as well as in German and French. Over 400 undergraduate students
from Lithuania and foreign coutries study at the Center since 1992/93. About
150 students are to be enrolled the next academic year.
This guide is meant for those foreigners who want to become familiar with
VGTU and want to understand its educational and research activities and to
take the appropriate degree program or conduct research at VGTU. All degree
programs offered at VGTU fit into the International Standard Classification
of Education (ISCED).
On 11 April of 1997 in Lisbon Lithuania signed "Convention on Recognition of
Qualifications concerning higher education in the European region".
