"SET EVERYBODY'S CREATIVE POWERS
FREE!" |
Student's Union is a non-political and
non-governmental organization, registered at the City Council of
Vilnius.
Its mission is uniting students for a democratic, legal, civil
society in Lithuania, protection of students, as individuals, who
are seeking knowledge, education, development in their future
professional activities, protecting student's rights and freedom,
signification of their interest inside and outside the university,
helping to seek for a job, etc.
Student's Union has the right to establish various groups for
solving different kinds of students problems. It initiates training
for young workers who help to develop fresh initiatives, gives
support for young people who face social problems.
The Student's Union also represents the students interests and helps
to solve their problems. The fact, that the President of the SU of
VGTU is also the member of the Rectorate at VGTU and she/he can
express the students opinion directly while participating in making
the Rectorate decisions, contributes to the activity of the
organization.
The SU is also active in each Faculty, in which there is a
representative who handles student affairs, deals with problems, and
sometimes even defends student opinions in the University Rectorate,
Dean's Office. A large part of the activities of the SU involve
international relations.
One of the most interesting duties of the SU is the organization of
celebrations for students at the University. These celebrations are
a very important part of university life; thus they require a great
deal of attention. Some celebrations are more rowdy, while others
are serious, yet all of them are very much enjoyed by students.
VGTU Student's Union is a member of Lithuanian Student's Union, BEST
(Board of European Student of Technology), it also co-operates with
other youth and student organizations, such companies as "East West
Consulting", "Student Travels", "NELTE Ltd." and other enterprises
and organizations. |

PROJECTS |
"The Virtual World" - project for young people to introduce how
to create a new web site and look after it. |
|
"At the Beginning of the Road" - a project for developing and
encouraging the voluntary work. |
|
"Development of Democracy at Lithuanian Universities" - seminars
and conferences planned; this could help students to realize the
principles and the importance of public organizations. |
|
"The Seasons of the Year" - series of concerts popularizing
classical music. It is a joint project with the Student's Union of
Lithuanian Music Academy. It could help to popularize classical
music, and promote students artistic self-expression; |

"The Youth and Drugs, Alcohol, AIDS" - the project propagating
healthy life style and providing with different information on the
ground of live examples; |
|
"The Northern Countries and Lithuania. The Bridge of Youth
Cooperation" - this project would help to create contacts with
youth organizations of the Northern countries, to exchange
information and organization and organize training courses and
culture arrangements. |

"The Student Hostels" - means for improving the internal order
at the hostels. |
