Hull Friends of the Earth Meeting Tuesday 3rd October 2006 in Relax Coffee Shop, Newland Ave

Green Fair
Ian reported that 15 organisations had paid for a stall to date. 26 are needed. Steve suggested contacting Angus Young or John Collingridge (Hull Daily Mail) to open the Fair. There should be ads in the HDM and Advertisers the week before the Fair, plus ongoing press releases to attract stallholders in Yorkshire Post, Radio Humberside etc. Hilary passed round a list of jobs to be done, and members signed up to volunteer for these. A poster will be included in the Hull ECO, The posters/flyers (A4, A5, A6) will be distributed a fortnight before. Arthur Street Trading will include A5 posters in their organic boxes. Coverage: Princes Ave, Beverley, Newland Ave, Skiday+Little Weighton, Hull Univ Union

Chrys reported that the newsletter was almost full at 8 pages but there was room for some last-minute news items. It was decided to post newsletters rather than deliver them by hand.

Climate Change
Chrys reported that the meeting with Diana Johnson MP had gone well. She has already signed the EDM, and she promised to write to and send us copies of her letters to Tony Blair and David Miliband and their replies. She also asked to be put on the Hull ECO mailing list. Guy reported that his meeting with John Prescott MP was friendly, but unsatisfactory eg JP claimed that emissions are going down, and that the Kyoto Protocols have been met. Guy would continue lobbying.

Freshers� Week at Hull University:
Guy had been all week campaigning on climate change, with HFoE�s display stand, gaining much interest and promises of help with leafleting and other activities.
Please contact Guy for more details and to volunteer to help.

Public meeting at the Guildhall
Thursday 12 October at 6.30 pm. Cllr Steven Baker and Martin Budd on panel; also representatives from the Geographic Society, World Wildlife Fund.

Film at The Lamp 7 Oct 7pm: �Rob Newman�s History of Oil�. Excellent film.
Distribution of leaflets in Victoria Square to publicise climate change action the film �An Inconvenient Truth� (at Hull Screen 25-27 Oct). CHEF is providing a bus.

March over the Humber Bridge 29 Oct: Meet in Humber Bridge car park at 11 for noon start (bands to lead and follow!)

Flood Risk
Alan W will measure the height of the tide on Monday 9 Oct at 8 am. It�s expected to be the highest for 20 years. He and Chrys will find a suitable place eg the Marina lock gates. Press releases to be sent to BBC Look North (Peter Levy interested in flood risk) and HDM

National Conference
Marinet: Bill reported that it was important to press for the proposed Marine Bill because at present the government was supporting commercial interests, not environmental ones.
Conference: Shan said it was well organised; the theme was how to engage the public.

Recycling Network It was decided to renew the annual subscription (�35) for a year, and to reorganise the distribution of the magazine, which most members had never actually seen before. It would go to Sue, Carole and then to Chrys.

No one was available to go to this meeting in Leeds, on Sat 7 Oct (too busy leafleting in Hull!)

Croda wind turbine application
Hilary reported that the application was going to committee on 11 Oct. There had been 35 letters of objection and Croda would like some letters in favour from individuals. Please send letters to Jennifer Downs, Hull City Council, Plannng Dept, Kingston House, Bond Street, or email her at: [email protected]

Chrys reported that September had broken all existing records for collections. Carole suggested moving �1,000 from CARGO�s current account into the Ecology Building Society. This was agreed

Hilary reported that the Planning Committee meeting to consider the incinerator application would be in January 2007 at the City Hall.

Hull in Bloom:
congratulations to David, whose wildlife site won 3rd prize overall.

Make a Difference Day:
Sat 28 Oct 10am-2pm. Visitors can see the wildlife garden, plant wild flowers.

Barmston Drain:
Sun 3 Dec 10am-2pm tree planting
