Tim Sander was present at this meeting, and Sheri-Leigh, Bishop Burton Sustainability Officer came to get an idea of what we did and how we could interact.
There was discussion of tree planting near Barmston Drain. David has identified a site 120 metres long, from the Lockwood Street Bridge to Bridlington Avenue. He has sounded opinion and is now pursuing the matter with the City Council. The aim is a hedge of native species, and pupils from nearby Clifton Primary would be involved. Haris suggested that the planting should coincide with Tree Week. Given the planning and organisation involved, aiming for next year was more reasonable.
Green Fair, Saturday 22 November: practical organisation (its been and gone, no need for these details).
Alan confirmed that Hull Eco content was sent to Ian for the web-site. Chrys remarked that the Beehive server was slow but the site content was good. Tim asked what support FoE could or should provide for groups. Chrys replied fast reliable server space and domain name.
Organisation and development of the shredder scheme was discussed. Administration of volunteers was a weak point. Chrys was keen to expand and so were potential clients. She had contacted CVS about volunteers. Cheri thought she could provide some volunteer labour from Bishop Burton. We needed to settle the matter of insurance (this has been settled).
Sharons suggestion of a card for the shops that sold shredder tickets was accepted. Chrys would bring cards for signing to the December meeting. Thanks too to Sharon for her work.
WREN is looking for a panel member. Since Friends of the Earth had bid and might bid again for recycling funds from this source, membership would be informative, even though a FoE member could not participate in decisions concerning us. Alan T agreed to put himself forward.
Carole reminded the meeting that planning applications were in for Ferensway and the Needlers site.
Haris thought signatures in Eco should be inlarger type and that there ought to be an article on W[yke] O[rganic] W[aste].
Haris had written to Tony Blair and would pass the reply to Stephen.
Peter set out his ideas on a new design of solar panel.
