Escapade Build Report

After all the tapes have been put on the wings, fuselage, and control surfaces, we can begin to apply the primer/filler.  We are using a process from Aircraft Finishing Systems.  It uses CecoBond Fabric cement, CecoFill as a primer/UV barrier, and a waterborne two-part polyurethane topcoat.

The first two coats of the CecoFill are brushed on with foam brushes.  The first coat is applied using either vertical or horizontal strokes and the second coat is applied at a 90 angle.  The picture above is after the first coat where the brush marks are clearly visible.  The brush coats are used to get the filler into the weave of the fabric and a good portion of the first coat soaks in so it looks streaky.

After the second coat is applied, we used the iron at 275 to smooth down any reinforcing tapes where the edges may have lifted slightly.

The picture above is following the second coat.  The color is more even across the parts.  After the CecoFill has dried, it will be sanded and then 4-6 coats will be applied with a HVLP spray gun.
