in a city this big. |
Before you try to locate an address in Mexico City you must understand the way addresses
are structured here. Here are some important points: 1.- Unlike US addresses we write the street name first and then the number. 2.- The street, number and city are not enough. The city is divided in smaller sectors called "COLONIAS" each with a different name. The city is quite big and you can fing two streets or more with the same name, however, you will not find two streets in the same "Colonia" with the same name. We abreviate "Colonia" as "Col." 3.- Due to the size of the city it is impossible to find a Taxi Driver that knows all the streets, If you are going to visit a friend in Mexico it would help to know if there´s another landmark arround (ask your friend) You can find a great map online (or purchase it online -paper and CD ROM versions available-) at Guiaroji. This company lets you input the street (or "Colonia") in their web site and the map is displayed. The grid lines you will see (in red) are 1 kilometer (.621 mile) apart from eachother. Remember that this online map shows subway stations. |
