Last month, Pinoy NBA die-hards flocked to Araneta Coliseum and Robinsons Malls as the NBA Madness hits Manila by storm.

 

The highlights included the Celebrity Jam which featured special appearances of NBA stars Andre Iguodala of the Philadelphia 76ers, Channing Frye of the New York Knicks, the gorgeous San Antonio Spurs Silver Dancers, and the adorable Harry The Hawk of the Atlanta Hawks.

 

 

Also in the Big Dome, local celebrities like Richard Gomez, Gary Valenciano, Zoren and Kier Legaspi, Anjo Yllana, Richard Gutierrez, Wendell Ramos, Elvis and Rocky Gutierrez, Antonio Aquitania, Robert Ortega, James Blanco and Emilio Garcia, took part in the mock re-enactment of the recent NBA finals games between the Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks. Also, local bands Parokya ni Edgar, Sugarfree, K24/7, Join The Club and 7 Shots of Wisdom rendered live performances.

 

Meanwhile, series of tours happened at participating Robinson’s Malls where the NBA 3-on-3, Shooting Stars, Slam Dunk Contests and Free Throw Conga Line were part of the main activities.

 

NBA Madness is for the benefit of local charities namely Special Olympics and the Council for the Welfare of Children and its Bright Child Foundation, under NBA Cares, the NBA global community outreach program.

The AF3 started three years ago to bring professional Asian drivers into a higher level of motor sports. Since it has successfully landed its course in the Philippines, there is no stopping our Kababayans to pursue the lead. The likes of Tyson Sy, Dado Peña and now Gaby dela Merced are making Pinoys in the racing limelight.

 

As of July 14, 2006, Dado Peña set the fastest time of the day in the final practice before the July 15 – 16 race schedule (Roads 7-9) at the Zhuhai International Circuit in China. During the game itself, Peña ranked 5^th in the over-all-standing, with 12 laps and a total time of 22.01.515 (22 mins, 01 seconds and .515 hundredths of a second) fastest at a lap time of 1.47.928. It was Ali Jackson of Ireland who made it to the top with a total time of 21.44.820 at 12 laps, fastest at a lap time 1.47.947.
