Excitement meter and pre-fight analysis start to heat up. No doubt, Pinoys (well, mostly) are boxing fans. And here he goes, the much-idolized Pinoy boxer gets set for another brawl in his hometown. With all that have happened after the Pacquiao-Morales re-match, how excited can we really get? Well, it is not always safe to assume the views and expectations of our kababayans. To get a glimpse of a pulse, we have gathered responses from 32 respondents, coming from different strata. Its surprising to know what theyve got to say. Here are some of the best answers we got: Without a doubt, Pacquiao will win via knock-out. Why? Because as I have observed it, Manny is taking Larios lightly. He just began training, unlike when he prepared for Morales. Excited? Yes, but not as excited as the previous fight where you couldnt predict the winner. Here, Manny is heavily favored to win. Also I see this fight with Larios as only a primer for Pacmans bigger fights later, against Morales or Barrera. --- Rey Garrido, 40, Salesman Unang una, Im a little bit excited since matagal na din walang international boxing competition sa Pinas. It will bring money sa ating turismo. Sa tingin ko matatalo si Pacquiao. Ewan ko ba. Nega pero yun ang nararamdaman ko. Pero sana manalo si Pacman. LABAN PACMAN! --- Aldrich Mojares, 20, nursing student Not so much compared to the previous fight. Dati kasi willing akong panoorin sa sine, ngayon ok lang kahit sa TV na lang. --- Israel Palino, 33, Teacher Mas exciting yung kay Morales, because he was defeated by Morales. Re-match yun. Publicity wise sobrang daming politicians are riding on. The July bout is not as exciting as the first. Wala masyado promotion at busy sa SONA. ---- Atty. Vikki Victoria, 40 Not quite. Mannys no longer the underdog. That means he can lose everything. The other guys got nothing to lose. --- Fr. Eugene Hechanova, 26 Siempre excited ako and Im sure Pacman will win. Same lang po ng excitement. ---- Licette Tugas, 25, employee Yes, it excites me. Pacquiao will win. --- Pastor Joy Gotico, 40s |

Based on our survey, conducted from May 13 17, 2006, 53% of the total respondents are confident that Pacman will surely win. 22% are uncertain if the Peoples Champ can still do it. 12.5% feel that the Destroyer most probably will end up losing, while the other 12.5% are indifferent. Excitement is still evident with this Pacquiao-Larios fight. However and with the exception coming from the non-boxing fans, almost all feel that the previous re-match with Erik Morales was a more exciting one. The reason basically is the revenge factor with Morales, plus it was a break or make for Pacquiao. Only one respondent (female) says that the level of excitement is just as the same with the Pacquiao-Morales re-match. It also seems that the perception of some people for Pacquiao has changed. His image has turned showbiz, with all the publicity and commercials hes into. For some, looks like it has given him a yabang connotation. Another important observation is the indifference of some people towards the fight, as they are not boxing followers, or simply not interested in boxing at all. Be it Pacquiao-Morales or Pacquiao-Larios, or whoever contender Pacquiao faces, they have more important concerns to attend to. Still, most are in full confidence and respect to the Peoples Champ. They have high regard for Pacquiao and one with him in his road to another ring victory. This may not be the full scope of the peoples views, but certainly all the responses are equally significant to the real deal of excitement. Furthermore, regardless of the excitement level or fight assumptions, Manny Pacquiaos upcoming fight will certainly be a fight for the Filipino pride. This is another opportunity for all of us to be re-united as we show the whole world the strength and capabilities of Juan de la Cruz. Also, the boxing mania in Manila is another way for us to prove our competency in organizing an international sports competition. Lets all together hope and pray that this fight, no matter how excited we are, will bring more glory to our country. |
