St. Benilde Hosts NCAA Season 82
UE Hosts UAAP Season 69

The College Athletic Fever is making schools at rage with each other again!

De La Salle College of St. Benilde hosts the 2006-2007 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The opening ceremonies kicked off last June 24 at the Araneta Coliseum with a futuristic theme Proud and True at 82: Blazing Beyond Limits.

Along with the CSB Blazers, San Beda College (SBC Red Lions), Colegio de San Juan de Letran (Letran Knights), Jose Rizal University (JRU Bombers), MAPUA Institute of Technology (MIT Cardinals), Philippine Christian University (PCU Dolphins), San Sebastian College - Recoletos (SSC-R Stags) and the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD Altas) are all ready to bag down Championship titles in basketball, volleyball, track and field, taekwondo, swimming, soccer and table and lawn tennis.

Early senior basketball predictions favor the wins to the defending Champs, the Letran Knights.

As it was for a good start, during the opening, Letran defeated the host school Benilde, 65-44. MAPUA beat PCU at 47-42 while Perpetual won over San Sebastian at 73-67. Also, San Beda crushed Jose Rizal University’s performance with a 30-point lead at 81-51.

With the exception of the opening ceremonies and finals games, venues are at the now renovated Ninoy Aquino Stadium and Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (Rizal Memorial Coliseum) in Manila.

Meanwhile, if St. Benilde kicked-off this season’s oldest collegiate sports league, its counterpart in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), the De La Salle University will be missing in action this season. The controversy involving the ineligibility of two basketball Archers during the last two seasons made the UAAP board suspend La Salle in all sports events in the entire season’s league.

Furthermore, excitement continues as the University of the East hosts the 69th UAAP Season with the theme Achieving Excellence in Sports through Unity, Harmony and Commitment.  Opening ceremonies is on July 8, also at the Big Dome.

Once again, along with the UE Warriors, University of the Philippines (UP Maroons), Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU - Eagles), University of Santo Tomas (UST Tigers), Far Eastern University (FEU Tamaraws), Adamson University (AU Falcons) and National University (NU Bulldogs) will go on for the championship titles in various competitions.

And as basketball (Senior Division) is the frontline game, the Warriors will meet head on with the Falcons right after the hour-long opening ceremonies. The hard court continues to heat up with the Blue Eagles against the Bulldogs following the first game.

Like the NCAA, venues for the UAAP are the Ninoy Aquino Stadium and Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (Rizal Memorial Coliseum).

Catch all the action-packed adventure as the seven schools participate in basketball, volleyball, chess, table tennis, badminton, fencing, judo, lawn tennis, swimming, taekwondo, football, softball, baseball and yes even beach volleyball (venue to be announced).

HAIL! HAIL! To the Alma Maters!
