PHILOSOPHICAL ESSAYS BY NATHAN COPPEDGE

Metaphysical Wrinkles

The Wrinkle of Totality

Every possibility or indicator must have some relevance to the big
picture, perhaps in terms of good and evil.

The Wrinkle of Pragmatics

Not just any reality will do. There must be purpose, or at least a way
of explaining the way things are. Hence the tendency towards ethics.

The Wrinkle of Concision

If the system describes infinity, it does so systematically.

The Wrinkle of Imperfection

Even a perfect system must explain imperfect realities. Another use
of ethics, especially in relation to progressive or transcendent beliefs
such as karma, nirvana, the afterlife, and concepts of deity.

The Wrinkle of Loss

Time passing may be a form of judgment, which explains how
some things do not belong to us, or how the loss is appropriate for
someone as imperfect as ourselves (if only because we are
    powerless).

The Wrinkle of Consciousness

What is the All, what is Pragmatic, what is Concision, what is
Imperfection, what is Loss, if Consciousness is all-important? This
may be the wrinkle of all metaphysical wrinkles, affecting ethics
(vis. intentionalism), systems (vis. "what is real?"), and
cosmologies (vis. the idea of God).
