CANADIAN VOLUNTEERS FOR YESHA

Jewish Legion Base: Although the Jewish Legion is expanding to include many settlements
and towns in Yesha, it was apparent from the beginning that one
settlement would be needed as a home base, where training and
integration of volunteers could occur. The community that opened its
arms in welcoming the Jewish Legion, was none other then Kfar Tapuach. The strategic importance of Tapuach cannot be explained without mentioning the Tapuch junction, a road that leads in all direction to important strategic areas. To the east, the road leads to the largest city in the Shomron of Ariel, dozens of other Samarian settlements |

(Note: Road leads to Tel Aviv) are found between it, and the pre-67 armistice line. In the north, the Shechem area settlements are located, including Elon Moreh, Itamar, Yitzhar, and Bracha, all settlements under great security burden. To the east lies the road to the Migdalim settlement, and afterwards Maleh Efraim, the capital of the Jordan valley. And to south lies such major settlements as Eli, Ofra, and Beit El on the road to Jerusalem. Tapuach is the settlement that overlooks what transpires on the road, and is one of the areas that terrorists, including suicide bombers who were heading to Israeli cities have been caught at.
With the support of the Tapuach Council, Samaria Regional Council, and the Yesha Council many other government and non-governmental bodies the Jewish Legion has been able to maximize the use of the settlement in order to help in its mission of saving lives, while at the same time providing volunteers with the most comfortable and beneficial surroundings. A Yeshiva has been set up in Tapuach allowing volunteers to combine Torah study, with their JL service. For those wishing to learn or improve their Hebrew, different levels of Ulpan are being given onsite. While Ariel College where courses are given free of charge to JL volunteers is only ten minutes away. The community also has a nearby area for training of recruits and dogs and their handlers, with other needs such as a lounge area for volunteers being set up.
“I believe that supporting this project is simply a decision to save lives.” -
Daniel Shukrin
