The Jewish Legion:
Saving Yesha's Jews

The Jewish Legion is a volunteer civilian security force that was created in April 2002, in a united effort involving Jews in Israel and the Diaspora.  The organization was formed as terror in Israel, especially in what was the last remaining shelter from terror (the home) was being repeatedly targeted, and with deadly consequences. This latest wave and method of terror, forced parents and children to not only have to worry about surviving the daily drive to and from work and school, or the visit to the mall and other places, but now families had to seriously contend and fear that the night would be shattered by a hail of bullets.

The Jewish Legion has been created so that no Jew in Israel will have to contemplate such horrible thoughts, by bringing in volunteers and specialized dogs to put an end to infiltrations.  The Jewish Legion was brought in place to fill the void that has been caused by more then two years of endless war, which no army, and definitely not one that is as small as the IDF, can fill (Note: While Israel’s army is one of the best army in terms of quality, in terms of defending manned positions, it cannot continue to field enough soldiers for securing the thousands of towns and cities in Israel, a job that is different then what IDF training is geared for).

The Jewish Legion, has fashioned itself as a defensive unit, one that can patrol, track and identify threats to settlements, and if need be to take them out as well. Therefore, the JL can help in defending settlements much better then the reservists who are sent for a few weeks at a time, and are not as familiar with the area, the holes and terrain that terrorists can use to their advantages.

The Jewish Legion has made the important decision that bringing volunteers from the Diaspora is of prime importance, and therefore have made this the most important part of the Jewish Legion, as opposed to other smaller local security forces.  Although training has been given to Israeli volunteers, the fact that volunteers will have more time to train (as opposed to a working Israeli, or one who must go through the army) and secure Jewish towns contributed to the JL decision to concentrate on bringing in Diaspora Jews.

The Jewish Legion, is in urgent  need of everything from equipment, such as flak jackets, coats (as the winter months come closer) to the most prized possession, specially selected dogs, that are trained in identifying and stopping infiltrators, among other things.  Expansion requires, millions of dollars, just the basic costs, such as flights, food, housing and allowances, that are given to volunteers adds up, yet it is still worth it, and to our great satisfaction has already shown results in foiling attacks in the Tapuach area.

More then this, a strong message is being made to the world and to the Jews of Israel. The fact that we have saved lives, and will continue to do so, with your help means the world to those whose children will get to grow up, and whose families will not be broken up as we saw so sadly in Itamar, in Atzmona, in Metzer, and countless other places. Even more then this, is the image that we send to the more then 200,000 Jews of Yesha, and the entire Jewish State, we have not abandoned them, but on the contrary we are ready to join them, to due our part in defending Israel, just as Canadian volunteers did during the pre-state days, and during other war's..

The Jewish State has been regarded by Diaspora Jewry as our guardian for our existence and safety, and rightly so. Now it is our turn, to show the Jews of Israel, that we will be their guardians in this time of need.

Now, before you do anything else, note that while you may have given for the victims of terror, or sent money so that a pizza or hamburger meal got to a soldier on the front line. Whether you gave to help get the truth out to the world, or whether you gave to send underprivileged Jews in Israel to camp, there is something that comes before all this.

Right now, we sadly must put before you a life and death matter, a question of Pichuach Nefesh. We do not know where the next attack will come,  when the next family will have to mourn their dead, but we do know that it can be prevented.  The Jewish Legion needs your support, whether it is by volunteering in the Jewish Legion in Israel, or in Canada to raise awareness of our lifesaving mission. Whether it be by talking to your friends and family, or printing and distributing as many leaflets from this site as possible, make sure that you do your part, because if not, you will not be able to say that your were not warned, that you did not know, or you could not do anything.

You Have a choice!
