Machal- Jewish Legion Program
Machal is the IDF program that allows non-Israeli Jews to volunteer for IDF service. The program is 18 months and includes, a 3.5 month period of Jewish enrichment which includes time studying Hebrew, Jewish history and other Jewish studies, before being sent for regular training and being placed in an IDF unit. The Jewish Legion has arranged with Machal for volunteers to spend their enrichment program in the Jewish Legion, and at the same time help save Jewish lives. |

Volunteers have a well-needed head start, as they can both get acclimatized to the temperature, area and routine. Most IDF combat units, serve their time in the Shomron, so the prior knowledge of the area, and the topography of the land that one will acquire while volunteering in the Jewish Legion will be very useful later on. Volunteers will get regular and advance training with the JL, carrying out much of what they will be doing during IDF basic training, which entails guard duty, and exercises that will help them get ready. Volunteers will also be enrolled in Ulpan (intensive Hebrew lessons) that will get them to the level needed for the IDF.
Other advantages to joining the JL's Machal program includes the fact, that volunteers have soldiers on site with whom routine training and exercises are carried with, and whom they can speak to and find out exactly what to expect later on. The JL will also be able to answer exactly how things work, as the first Machal-JL volunteers have already enrolled in this program. After the enrichment program, JL-Machal participants will join other Machal participants from other enrichments programs, who will then go join for another more intensive one month pre-army period, before going to regular IDF basic training. All Jewish Legion volunteers' needs are provided:
