March 4, 2007: It has been some time since our last entry on this site. We were appreciative to hear from friends and family, even acquaintances and strangers who continue to read our website and send thoughtful prayers and concern our way. We are forever grateful for all the blessings we received following our cancer diagnosis and treatment. With the help of you, our community, friends and family, we were able to keep an active household operating despite our despair. We were fed many meals and nourished equally by your thoughtfulness and prayers; we relaxed in a home that was generously cleaned thanks to helpers; the yardwork was graciously completed by neighbors; and our loads were lightened by those who watched our kids when we were unable to do so. We received special treats and surprises in the mail which provided smiles amid stress. Each and every expression of generosity, whether it was in prayer, thought or task, was helpful. There aren't enough thanks to convey what that meant to us. Kathleen had two surgeries since November's note. Each tissue expander failed, resulting in additonal surgery. Unfortunately they did not occur at the same time, so when the left side was replaced with an implant (surgery 11/28), the radiated side completely deflated one week later. Therefore, she underwent another surgery on December 28. This proved much more painful due to scar tissue from radiation, and it introduced a new pain running through her entire arm and shoulder. As of today, that pain has lifted and full range of motion is back! The surgeries scared the kids, as they cannot discern one procedure from the next. What they know is mom is out of commission, and they wonder if that means the procedure is like chemo all over again. It has certainly changed all our lives in many ways. Sydney asked last week, "Mom, are you going to be alive next year?" A few days later, "Mom, will you be alive when I'm 10?" The answer, "Yes!" February brought a positive 3-month check-up, but we are reminded of the possibility for relapse. We can more fully understand how each day is a gift from God and shouldnt be taken for granted. We continue to pray daily for healing, to be cancer-free, to have freedom from anxiety and worry, for long life and joy, for ways to improve our health through nutrition/exercise, and ways to better serve our Lord who continues to be our biggest source of strength.
Please receive our heartfelt thanks for all you have done, Thomas and Kathleen
