TOWN website

TOWN website

The goal of this project was to design a website for TOWN, an upscale Chinese restaurant. With the high-end clientele of the TOWN guest in mind, I opted for a minimalist aesthetic when coding and styling the site. This look was achieved with full-screen, high resolution photos and semi-transparent boxes on each page. In addition to that, the traditional top navigation bar was moved to the bottom of the site and separated, allowing for maximum visual impact with the background photos. The site is unified with consistent typography, color, contrast, and shapes.

I completed the project using a combination of the Brackets text editor, Cyberduck (FTP client), and Adobe Photoshop. After receiving some coding assistance early on from my web professor, I was able to finalize the design and layout of each page without compromising my vision. To avoid any ethical, cultural, or social misinterpretations, I kept all of the background images upscale and cross-cultural. The photos were also free-to-use with no attribution to the original photographer required. I selected this piece since it displays my ability to design a website with the user, or target audience in mind. In moving the navigation from the top to the bottom, as well as making the site photo-heavy, it evokes the desired upscale nature from the TOWN style guide. Following the most recent critique, I changed the background photo on the menu page to allow for more contrast with the menu typography.
