Print Poster Design

history poster

Interplanetary

The goal of this project was to design a poster in a popular historical style of my choosing, but with a present-day subject or theme. I picked the art deco works of Cassandre for my style reference, and the space program for my subject. My target audience was open to nearly everyone, as I wanted the poster to be engaging even without knowledge of the historical context. To achieve this, I used the design principles of unity, balance, repetition, and proportion/scale.

I conceptualized the project on paper and completed my design in Adobe Illustrator. All ethical, cultural, and social interpretations have been considered, and no compromises were necessary to achieve my final vision for the poster. I selected this piece as it displays my knowledge of the principles of design and their effectiveness at achieving an engaging visual. The piece successfully appropriates the style of Cassandre, while updating the theme from transatlantic ship travel to space travel. Later feedback suggested better typography alignment with the space destinations, so I made this change in the final piece.
