For this project, I was tasked with designing a collage in Adobe Photoshop, with imagery and colors representing my ‘future’ design studio. My target audience for the project was anyone between 15 and 60, especially those that enjoy beach culture. To reach this broad audience, I utilized imagery from different generations, including bold colors that are not specific to a certain era. My design inspiration came from old ‘movie of the week’ specials from the 1970s, with their bold colors and spiral-like motion design. With this in mind, I used the design principle of radiation and placed the images coming out of a center focal point.
I completed this project in Adobe Photoshop, with free imagery found via the Creative Commons search engine. The design makes every attempt to balance my vision with cultural and social considerations and/or misinterpretations. I selected this piece for its visual impact, thanks to the radial layout and use of bold colors. The piece also displays my ability to unify a design with similar colors and imagery. Thanks to feedback from a fellow student, the background of the design went from a simple grey color, to the final image of a crashing wave.
