Saying
Goodby
Monsignor Sharpe became pastor of his own
parish in Oxnard in 1964. Since Monsignor Corcoran's health had
not sufficiently improved, he resigned his administrational duties.
Cardinal McIntyre named Monsignor Corcoran the Pastor Emeritus,
allowing him thus to retain his bond with his beloved parish
and yet to turn it over to another pastor. Monsignor Harry Trower
was appoinbted pastor, a position that he would occcupy for the
next three years.
During this time he was ably assisted by Father
Earl Walker and Father Simon Falvey.
It was Monsignor Trower's sad duty to officiate
at Monsignor Corcoran's Requiem Mass: first in Tucson where he
died on Sunday, August 8th, 1965; and then at the solemn Requiem
Mass in the church which he had built and shepherded for thirty-eight
years.
Bishop John J. Ward Presided at the obsequies.
