Sci-Fi-WEBzine - (http://www.sci-fi-mag.com/): A monthly e-zine offering science fiction and fantasy. They do post some free sample stories but full access is available by paid subscription only. I browsed two stories: passable writing, numerous typos. The Web offers much better for free. (14 July 97)
SeanMatthewMurphy - (http://www.telenet.net/users/smurphy/welcome.htm): Sean's "personal e-zine" offers a couple short stories and poems, plus a smattering of humor and non-fiction stuff. His site is exceptionally well-designed--especially welcome is the inclusion of buttons for playing sound files, which let the viewer choose whether or not to download the sounds instead of playing them automatically as many less-courteous webmasters do. The Secret Thoughts of Samuel Wimbush - (http://www.ndirect.co.uk/~marcusq/wimbush.htm): UK author Tom Clipper posts serial short stories about Sam Wimbush: "urban desk-pilot extraordinaire, unsung hero of Tweedales' office bureaucracy, foe of Japanese photocopiers, and 'Kitten Slayer'." Wimbush is sort of like a cross between Walter Mitty and Mr. Bean, and Tom documents his adventures with a dry, low-key wit. The stories posted on the Tom's website are follow-ons to his published book of the same name. (17 June 97)
Skrubly's Home Page - (www.sonic.net/~derf/bindex.html): Skrubly posts a variety of stories he wrote for a "Blender" game. Blender is played by weaving three seemingly random subjects into a short story. Skrubly's results are surprisingly creative and entertaining. Unfortunately, although all of Skrubly's entries are published at his web site, I wasn't able to access the Blender Home Page where the game originated. (07 Dec 97)
Sparks - (http://www.keystonenet.com/~jesch/osp/sparks/): This offering from Orange Street Press publishes poetry, fiction, essays, and "other artistic miscellanea." There's very little besides poetry in the most recent issues. (08 Nov 97)
Stitch - (http://www.primenet.com/~xtorres/Stitch/stframe.html): This e-zine from Dust Productions publishes horror and dark fantasy. Issue #1 has been up since May and as of this writing it hasn't been updated yet. Stitch is a darkly gorgeous site, with a small selection of creepy good stories. See especially Ray Garten's short story "Active Member" in the "Literal" section--sorry for no direct link, it's buried in the frames. (13 Oct 97)
Storyscape - (http://sysx.apana.org.au/storyscape/) - Lisa Bode posts an unusual collection of interlinked short stories. The pieces all have a distinctly unreal quality, feeling more like a dream diary than traditional fiction. (07 Mar 97)
Strange Attractors - (http://www.ldd.net/scribers/tpowel/): Cyberpunk meets pulp crime drama in a story that spans five decades and two continents (Asia and America). James Grigsby blends snippets of recent past and near-future into an intriguing web. (08 Nov 97)
The Superguy Home Page - (http://www.halcyon.com/superguy/): A collaborative fiction project that's been going on since the early 1990's. Heroes and heroines jumping about in long underwear, righting wrongs, cavorting, and generally having fun. The site features about two dozen authors with many characters and storylines. (27 Mar 97)
