Powers - Originally, Warpath simply had super-strength and endurance, like his
older brother. As time past, his powers grew, with the added abilities of super-senses and
the ability to fly.
Origin - A teenager on the Apache Indian reserve, James watched as his older
brother left to join the X-Men. Only a few months later, John had died, sacrificing
himself to save the world. James was furious, blaming Professor X for his brother's death.
Approached by the White Queen, James joined her team of Hellions, took the name
Thunderbird, and embarked on a quest for vengenance.
History - Thunderbird quickly became the Hellions's leader. He was the most
experienced, and he was always the White Queen's favorite. The team battled with both the
X-Men and the New Mutants, but they more often failed then succeded. Thunderbird continued
his vendetta against Professor X.
Thunderbird could not live in a world of hate forever. Professor X had apparently died,
and Thunderbird found himself without purpose. He left the Hellions, meaning to find a
life for his own. When he returned to his homeland, he found that his people had been
slaughtered. The only clue, however, was a Hellfire Club mask, pointing to the fact that
his leaving the Hellions was the reason his entire family was killed.
Approached by Cable, Thunderbird joined the new team of mutants that was developing under
the ashes of the New Mutants. Taking the name Warpath, James joined in hopes of destroying
the White Queen and the Hellfire Club, much in the same way that he had once wanted to
destroy Professor X.
His life soon found solance in the form of Siryn, the daughter of Banshee and fellow
member of X-Force. Warpath soon learned her terrible secret: she was an alcoholic. He
helped her overcome her addiction and became her best friend. This, however, turned
blossomed into a love for Warpath, although Siryn did not share his feelings. They
flirted, but nothing substantial happened.
Warpath soon learned that his former teammates, the Hellions, had been slaughtered by the
time-displaced Fitzroy. The White Queen was the lone survivor, and she was comatose.
Warpath, Firestar, and Cannonball traveled to Nova Roma to tell the other two remaining
Hellions, Empath and Magma, what had happened. When the White Queen awoke, and reformed
her life, Warpath confronted her. She told him the truth: the Hellfire Club had nothing to
do with his tribe's murder.
Helpless, Warpath was slowly beginning to lose it. Siryn helped him, but it was not
enough. On a mission with X-Force, Warpath vanished, taken by Risque'. The two had a love
affair, and Warpath finally found some peace. He eventually returned to X-Force, but his
affair with Risque' was short-lived. She would betray him, and Warpath would leave her
behind.
Warpath eventually found the cause of his grief. With Siryn at his side, Warpath traveled
to find the only other survivor of his tribe: Michael St. Cloud. Before he could tell
Warpath what happened, he was killed in an explosion. Following the trail of mystery,
Warpath eventually was killed in a battle with a mad scientist.
In the underworld, Warpath found himself face-to-face with Blackheart. There, he learned
to terrible secret: it was Stryfe, Cable's evil clone, that had killed his family. But
Warpath could not take his revenge out on Stryfe, for he had already died months prior.
The other members of X-Force forced Blackheart to return Warpath's soul to his body, and
Warpath lived again.
X-Force began to change, and eventually, Pete Wisdom, former spy, took over. He taught
Warpath how to fly, and taught X-Force to be spies. The team worked well, however, they
were appearently killed during a mission. They had appeared only once, attacked the team
now using the X-Force name. Warpath has not been seen since. |
